From beginning to end we were on the edge of our seats! The story line, cinematography, characters, was absolutely the best movie I have seen in my life...and I am 50 years old! Two thumbs up!!!

Such an amazing movie experience. I was completly drawn in and amazed. We saw this in IMAX 3D. My first in this format and I was so impressed. I'm not a big movie goer. I typically wait to watch at home, but this was something I wanted to do with my teenage children. We had a blast. Now seeing the previews for other adventure types of movies, I might have to increase my entertainment budget!

Solid Movie

An enjoyable, entertaining experience. Sure, it was a bit unnecessarily long, but that can be said for most movies. Just like to original trilogy, it had many epic scenes, stunning visuals, and good action. Was it as good as the original 3 LOTR films? No. But they set a high bar. The overall storytelling wasn't as good in the Hobbit. But on a 1-10 scale, I'd give it a 7.5.

Fun but longer than necessary

I reread the first half of The Hobbit while I waiting to get into the midnight showing so it was fresh in my mind and very very easy to see where Jackson shoe-horned things in from the other books. The beginning half or so of An Unexpected Journey is a grand adventure that's fast-paced, fun and engaging but then you stumble upon extra scenes Jackson added as blatant foreshadowing for the original trilogy and suddenly the pacing grinds to a halt and never truly recovers from it. The Riddle Game and Bilbo's escape from Gollum and the Goblin tunnels is heavily truncated which is disappointing considering what a monumental moment in the entire series that is. I shouldn't be surprised though as Jackson has a habit of taking pivotal moments of growth for the main characters and totally hamstringing them. Overall I liked it but I don't plan to see it more than once maybe twice in the theater which says something considering I saw the original trilogy a combined 34 times in the theater.

Well Worth The Wait

Peter Jackson has done it again! The Hobbit was fantastic! I saw The Hobbit in Imax 3D and found it to be worth the extra money. The best thing about Peter Jackson is that he has outstanding vision for what he wants to accomplish with the movies that he directs or produces. He never fails to put his vision to the big screen with an attention-to-detail that is second to none. Peter Jackson has successfully done this once again with The Hobbit. It's too bad that I have to wait a year for the story to continue with part II. In the meantime, I guess I'll have to go see The Hobbit a few more times. Definitely a must see!
