You wouldn't think that a movie about a Hobbit would be action packed but it is! It starts out very warm and funny but when the adventure begins - it really begins! The 3D effects were awesome! and the cinematography- beautiful. The characters of the dwarfs are fully developed and you really care about all of them. The fight scenes with the Orks got a little crazy with the violence so I don't recommend it for kids under 9 yrs old. Then, one scene with the mountains was a little over the top (for believably) I thought. But this is a fantasy movie so you just have to just go with the flow and enjoy it. Gollum was as creepy as ever; he makes my skin crawl. This is just shy of a 3 hour movie but it is so fast paced and entertaining that it whizzes by. Of course there is more then 1 movie in this series and I am definitely look forward to the next one!

My daughters and I are Tolkien fans, and the movie was disappointing. Not the show on screen, the images are fascinating, it is amazing what state of the art filmaking technology can do. We are fans, so we can live with one line from the book becoming 20 min of movie. But it is just too much show for the storytelling. The dwarves scape from the goblins cannot be pictured as another battle for helms keep. It has become too easy to make heroes into videogame super heroes who fight single handed hordes of orcs. That exagerated action permeates the movie. And ruins it. We would have liked the story, not the video game.

IMAX-3D is always great. The Hobbit is visually beautiful, often funny with many thrilling and exciting sences. If you liked The Lord of the Rings series you will ike The Hobbit. All the actors from the LOTR have returned to the Hobbit making it easy to know the characters. Fun and engaging from beginning to end witj an ending leaving you wanting to see part 2. Don't miss it at the IMAX its a spectical worthy of the format.

For those of you that have actually read the book, you will notice a lot of changes. For example, they totally skipped important parts in the book. In addition, there was not enough reliability on the ring in the movie. Finally, in three hours you would expect them to tell the whole story, but they only get to half of the story. Although there are these changes, I would still recomend that you go see it. I mean, if you saw the original you know this one has to be better.

The singing was a little weird and not repeated (which begs the question of why it was there at all). I also can't figure out why this is going to take 3 movies to get through.
