    it was pretty

    by

I'm one of the ones who got seasick watching but maybe it's because I wear glasses (but don't all nerds?) I can't say I had as much fun as I did watching The Avengers but I'm glad I saw it.

    No more 3D for me

    by b_k

The Hobbit is a great movie. If you like the LOTR trilogy then the Hobbit delivers exactly what you want - another 2:40 immersed in Middle Earth with all your favorite sets, characters, and story lines. Like LOTR itself, The Hobbit is not told in the same order as the book is read, but is ordered more chronologically for the bigger picture. Unlike LOTR, The Hobbit goes beyond the story, stretching it a bit and maybe even changing it. Maybe this was more for the producers who want three more full-length films, but not bad if you're a true LOTR junky and will never get enough.

What I didn't appreciate was the 3D technology. The 3D doesn't add as much as the lack of quality takes away. I'd rather see my screens in focus, thank you. There were some scenes (like the tossing and cleaning of plates) that seemed designed entirely for the 3D affect, and this detracted from the story as well as the movie.

So I like the movie but see it in 2D!

    An unexpectedly long journey

It's Peter Jackson. It's middle Earth which measns it's New Zealand scenery again so it's beautiful, the special effects are great and the casting is perfect which makes it very Lord of the Ringy but it's not really "THe Hobbit" as in the book by the same name which was much lighter than LOTR, simpler than LOTR and made virtually no reference to the problems that are encountered in LOTR. In short it's terribly overdone. Thebook had adventures that an untrained but clever Hobbit could be expected to master, a few trolls, a few orcs under the mountain. Instead we get New york City of Orcland with thousands of Orcs and mountain giants causing earthquakes etc.
Should you see it. Yeah. It's still better than if anyone else didit but it's not the Hobbit. It's LOTR, The Prequel.

    The Hobbit, an unexpected journey

Wonderful movie. Fastest 3 hours I ever spent watching a movie. Even my grandkids couldn't believe the movie was over. Great 3-D, wonderful characters, beautiful scenery, action-packed. Go see it in IMAX 3-D.

Where were the scissors in the cutting room.

    by

Taking this one book and making it into a trilogy allows for some more time to keep the audience seated. But this movie is unnecessarily too long.
Particularly the opening segment with the dwarves coming to the party and the riddle segment with gollum.

    Great movie, Bad in 3-D

Wonderful prequel to the LOTR trilogy. The 3-D, however, was poorly done and distracted from the cinematics. I found myself looking back and forth between at the characters in the foreground in 3-D and the panoramic vistas in the background in obvious 2-D. I recommend they avoid this in the next two films. I woulld recommend the 2-D version for those who have not seen it yet.

Good movie, but 3D is not worth it

    by

The movie itself was pretty good and fun to watch. Watching a 3D movie for 3 hours basically just means a lot of eye strain and annoyances. The movie itself would draw you into the wonderful New Zealand landscapes and make you feel like you are there in 2D. Make it 3D and everything looks fine for an hour or two and then just becomes a distraction that makes you want to take the glasses off and watch a blurry picture.

    feels like a reunion episode

    by

It feels strange to be back in middle earth. That being said the beginning of the journey has been great so far.

    great movie-but the theater...

    by

The movie was fantastic. It was like visiting an old friend that my wife and I haven't seen in quite awhile. 3D was great without being over the top or getting in the way of a great story. The characters were memorable and I cared about them. And he music and cinematography was grand and expansive.

My one complaint-the theater was just too damn loud. Way too loud.

    Awesome CGI

    by t21100

A little too much of everything though, they had to fit in all the different enemies, even the mountain rock-Transformer-resembling giants which was just gratuitous CGI. Semi overload but still AWESOME.
