Technology isnt everything

My daughters and I are Tolkien fans, and the movie was disappointing. Not the show on screen, the images are fascinating, it is amazing what state of the art filmaking technology can do. We are fans, so we can live with one line from the book becoming 20 min of movie. But it is just too much show for the storytelling. The dwarves scape from the goblins cannot be pictured as another battle for helms keep. It has become too easy to make heroes into videogame super heroes who fight single handed hordes of orcs. That exagerated action permeates the movie. And ruins it. We would have liked the story, not the video game.

The Hobbit

Great experience. But as always it wasn't the book. Although Peter did the best for what he had to work with(time&money). The scenery was awesome, the characters familiar and the storyline was fastpaced. Now I just have to stay alive another year and a half to see the end(July2014)

HOBBIT

Altogether, the Hobbit was a good movie. Though, I did have some gripes on it. To start, I didn't like the sequence with the Brown Wizard. It seemed out of of place and cartoony compared to the rest of the movie. Also, alot of things didn't match the book. For instance, Smaug was red in the book not blue from the little bit he was shown. Also, the Necromancer only had a breif mention in the book and it didn't have a big part like it did in the movie. In addition, Azog was already dead in the book but, in the movie he was alive trying to kill Thorin. This changed the entire direction of the book. I could go on but instead I will wrap this up. The Hobbit was entertaining to anyone who hasn't read the book but to someone who has, they may not enjoy it as much. I give this movie 9 out of 10

After seeing reviews about the unnecessary length of the movie, I was pleasantly surprised by how watchable and engaging it was. I thought the different additions (except for those strange mountain creatures) helped build up the context of the movie. Of course, much of the additions were familiar to me from reading through the appendices of Tolkien's books. If you're a big Tolkien fan, you'll enjoy and understand the additions, otherwise, it might not make sense. David

Worth the 20 bucks I spent o IMAX to see it at midnight per ticket. 3 movies? Did it have to be 3 movies for one book?
