An Unexpected Journey

I rated this movie a Must Go for two reasons. First off, you don't find story telling any better than JRR Tolkien in my opinion. Second, the computer animation was outstanding. As far as the rest of my opinions on the movie, I'd say some of the actors portraying the dwarfs had quite thick accents which made it a little hard to understand a few times. It was great seeing some of our favorite characters once again like Gandalf and Gollum. The ending was done quite smoothly and left us ready for the adventure to continue. The only down side for my family of five who attending a late night showing was the volume in our theater, literally our ears were ringing when the movie was over.

The Lord of the Rings trilogies blew me away, so when "The Hobbit" came out I didn't know what to expect. I haven't read any of the books, therefore watching the flick was a surprise from start to finish for me. The movie made for a great story with excellent cinematography and wonderful acting. By introducing the characters again, it is easier to understand how they were changed later in the Lord of the Rings series. This grown up adaptation of the book is intended more for teens and up. Although the film is less dark than the rest of the series there is plenty of trolls and things that go bump in the night throughout the movie. The best way to experience the entire "journey" is to see the flick is IMAX 3-D, then sit back and get ready to hear a good story

This movie was absolutely a waste of time and money. I enjoyed the Imax 3D experience as always. However, it was fight scene after fight scene. I actually did not mind going to the bathroom during this movie.. Way to long! Save you money and wait until it comes out on DVD or Blu-ray.

A Worthy Continuation

Regal opened a new 16 screen theatre here in Bellingham and I used this as an excuse to see the IMAX 3-D version of The Hobbit. For Peter Jackson fans this is a "must Go"; others may find the extensive stretching of the meager story in to three films a bit of a money-grabbing slog. BUT the film is well-crafted and acted with more of a humerous tinge than the Lord of the Rings (maybe that should have been six films?). The 3-D effects were balanced and not gimmicky. Overall, even at $17 for the IMAX, the film is quite worthy.

I was very disapointed with Peter Jackson this time around. Should have just done one movie and stuck to the book, not add all that extra stuff that wasn't even in the book. I predict, no awards for Jackson this time around.
