The Hobbit

Great experience. But as always it wasn't the book. Although Peter did the best for what he had to work with(time&money). The scenery was awesome, the characters familiar and the storyline was fastpaced. Now I just have to stay alive another year and a half to see the end(July2014)

The hobbit has a special place for me, it's the first real book I remember reading and so it has a sentimental touch. An Unexpected Journey is a great film. It has a much lighter tone than LotR but that is in keeping with the source material. I was especially surprised how the numerous songs which filled the book were actually included in a fairly seamless manner. Some parts with goblins and orcs may be a bit frightening for small children. As you may expect from the length, there are several scenes not from the book. Mostly additional back story and scenes to tie this movie back to the LotR. There was a bit too much shakey cam during action scenes but the overall effect was fine. I saw it in IMAX 3D. IMAX was worth it, the 3D was good but not necessary.

IMAX 3D is well-worth the extra money. Amazing Hobbit movie experience: fantastic NZ vistas combined with storytelling at its finest and the raw energy of elvish combat. Treat yourself to a grown-up, visual hot fudge sundae and go see this movie.

As a keen fan of the Lords of the Ring trilogy, I was looking forward to The Hobbit. And it does not disappoint. The scale and building up of the characters, where some are familiar and others new from LOTRs is in a similar style or what is the start of an epic journey, Only point to mention is that for young kids, it may be a slow moving and at well over two hours is not exactly a short movie!

As an avid book reader, the departure from the storyline in places and picking up the appendices to write the script seemed megalomaniacal, but it works. My biggest complaint was the nauseating 3D effects, which I will surely NOT be viewing in the future. Go, but see it in regular theaters.
