Wonderful prequel to the LOTR trilogy. The 3-D, however, was poorly done and distracted from the cinematics. I found myself looking back and forth between at the characters in the foreground in 3-D and the panoramic vistas in the background in obvious 2-D. I recommend they avoid this in the next two films. I woulld recommend the 2-D version for those who have not seen it yet.

Other than being a bit too heavy on battle scenes, this is a terrific adaptation of The Hobbit which expands the story in interesting ways. The eagle rescue makes the 3-D definitely worth the extra $ one pays for this. Excellent casting.

So, the movie starts... I laugh many times, I cringe a few times, I get worried for characters many times, I remember parts of the LotR movies at various points, and then the credits start! I was completely involved from start to finish. I did not know I had been sitting for >2.5hours until I looked at my watch after the credits began. What more can you ask from a movie?
So, it's not Tolkien's The Hobbit. It's Peter Jackson's The Hobbit. Unlike the LotR, I was prepared to ignore (as much as possible) any and all changes. Not possible - Azog chasing after Thorin? Sheesh!) - but I was not allowing that to impact my enjoyment of the movie (also unlike LotR).
Casting, sets, art work, acting (mostly... Elrond is a bit better in this. Gandalf is, unfortunately, a bit "rehearsed"), interpretation of many of Tolkien's thoughts, all great!
Just a fantastic piece of work!

I really enjoyed the Hobbit. I saw it in IMAX. Even though there was not alot of 3D pieces that seemed exciting to me. It was still great. It kept me on the edge of my seat. It was funny and exciting. It started slightly slow but it was very entertaining. You should go see it.
