Our family loves J.R.R. Tolkien books, especially The Hobbit. My husband must have read it 8 times as a kid growing up, and last read it to our oldest daughter. He was very happy with the movie - he said "Peter Jackson did an excellent job sticking to the book." Personally, I would've sat through 8hrs straight to watch it all at once instead of in installments, but I am happy with where they left off.

Really surprised! I did not like it. I have been a fan of the books for 20 years. LOVED all 3 of the other movies. Too Long, too much fighting, not enough events from the story. Very let down. Will not buy it when released. Had my ticket 2 months in advance and ask for 1/2 day off. What a bummer.

What a great movie! I was very impressed! Funny, clever, dark, mysterious, and just the right amount of fighting! Wonderful graphics. Can't wait for the next two movies.

For my son's birthday we took 11 members of our extended family to the movie...there was nothing else appropriate to this group so despite some so-so reviews mostly criticizing the length of the film, we went. I brought a small pillow for my younger child just in case (or for me!) But it really didn't seem all that long...it was visually very interesting and kept our attention, and while the story may have been a bit on the slow side in comparison to most movies, it did a wonderful job of getting you "into" the characters and the setting. None of us wanted it to be over when it came to the ending! My daughter even caught me (and mocked me) getting a bit emotional toward the end when Bilbo Baggins was given some kudos...
I had never read the book. One of my nieces did read the book and said it was better, as is usually the case...but it just made me think, wow, that must be a really good book!
We look forward to the next movie...

This is why I put So-So Good things: The movie was adventurous like I said at the top: I liked all the creative creatures in it like hobbits, dwarfs, goblins etc. I took my friends and cousins to see it and they said: Cousins say: Too Long, Boring, It was ok, and I loved it Friends say: Not my type of movie, it was alright and the other fell asleep halfway through. Improvement: Maybe make the movie shorter, make the movie almost same as the book next time and make more interesting for younger ages to watch. My answer is: It was good, but too long. Good job The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and keep the movie on! P.S: Im gonna see the Desolation Of Smaug (Hobbit 2) in a few days, as soon as I see it ill put my review on there. I hope this was helpful for all of you!
