Our Group of 11 People age 8 - 54 Enjoyed It Very Much

For my son's birthday we took 11 members of our extended family to the movie...there was nothing else appropriate to this group so despite some so-so reviews mostly criticizing the length of the film, we went. I brought a small pillow for my younger child just in case (or for me!) But it really didn't seem all that was visually very interesting and kept our attention, and while the story may have been a bit on the slow side in comparison to most movies, it did a wonderful job of getting you "into" the characters and the setting. None of us wanted it to be over when it came to the ending! My daughter even caught me (and mocked me) getting a bit emotional toward the end when Bilbo Baggins was given some kudos... I had never read the book. One of my nieces did read the book and said it was better, as is usually the case...but it just made me think, wow, that must be a really good book! We look forward to the next movie...

The Hobbit needs it's own feel

The movie was mostly enjoyable and I can see it stretched to a couple of films, but I would rather they edit and let the fans enjoy the original story. The biggest flaw, aside from the freakish film quality and graphics, was the lack of interesting or original score. We were wholly disappointed that the feel of the movie was very much Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit should stand on its own and flourish with a soundtrack befitting of such dwarven and hobbity bravery.

I echo much of what others have said. Great performances and visuals. Great story; the movie was too long. I'd say 2 hours and 25 minutes instead of 2 hours and 49 would have done the trick. If you liked LOTR you must see this. It is just too long.

I was just forced to see this movie with my friend because she loves lord of the rings. At first I thought it seemed like a lame movie. HOWEVER, during the movie my heart couldn't stop beating because of all the action scenes. It was disappointing that the movie took so long yet didn't actually complete the book. But overall, VERY WELL MADE
