For me, I thought the movie made perfect sense. While some critics might argue that the story is too "bloated" with information not pertinent to the actual adventure that Bilbo has set out upon, each bit of additional information serves a purpose. As a fan of the LOTR movies, I believe that Jackson is using The Hobbit as a platform to fill in the cracks of the stories of Middle Earth that were first told in the Rings trilogy. The movie flows effortlessly along with the story lines of both The Hobbbit and LOTR. What has mostly surprised me is the fact that everyone wants to talk about how needlessly long the film is, or the fact that they think it is a ploy to make extra cash. It seems to me that most people are missing the point. Bilbo sets out on an adventure that he was perfectly satisfied to be left behind on, yet even by the end of the first film, we can see a change taking place in Bilbo. That's what its about, Bilbo's willingness to lend a hand to those in need. As we all should

I loved it. I loved the humor. Martin Freeman is amazing as Bilbo. The worst part for me was Radagast. Not sure what he adds to the storyline. I felt that the movie dragged during the Radagast part.
I had four of my kids with me, ages 13-19 and they all loved it!
I'm going to see it again in the theaters!

To all those who say that Peter Jackson should shorten the movies, I point out all the dreck that has been produced in the past and has absolutely taken the soul out of the movie (Da Vinci Code anyone ...). The movie is magnificent, the backgrounds are superb and the action is exactly what you expect. If you have see The Lord of The Rings Trilogy but did not read the books, then this explains much of the background ... if, like me, you read all the books a long time ago then the movies paint and reinforce the images in your mind ... Love the movie and cannot wait for the next part ...

This movie was so much better than the critics opinions. The first hour of back story is a must for anyone who hasn't read the book or watched LOTR trilogy. Excellent movie!!! Would watch it again. Can't wait for the next one.

This was my first 3D film and I was blown away by the effects! Unfortunately, I was not equally blown away by the script. I found the film a bit ponderous at times. I also thought some of the devices a bit 21st century and not at all Middle Earthly. However, all in all, I enjoyed this welcome return to Middle Earth.
