    zzzzzzz

Seriously... How can a movie that is so long have so little happen in it??? The ONLY good thing about this movie was the brilliant Martin Freeman. This movie was a total bore and I'm not interested in the remaining "chapters".

Also - how many helicopter shots of people walking across New Zealand do we need??????

    Zzzzzz

    WHYYYY!?!?!?!?!

I was really excited to see this movie after reading the book. What a major let down... so DISAPPOINTING. I wanted to leave halfway through the film but my boyfriend wanted to watch the rest since we paid for it. Throughout the whole movie we were both shaking our heads. I understand that movies don't follow the book completely but most of them leave out information, not make things up. They completely changed how every event was suppose to happen. The only thing I liked was the HFR... looks really cool. I will NOT see the other 2 movies and if you're a true fan of the book you wouldn't either.

    too long and boring!

I thoroughly enjoyed the lord of the rings triligy and was excited to see how this movie would play oput in comparision. I was very disappointed and will not see the next movie(s) in the theater. I MAY see them on DVD. Just when it started to get interesting , the movie ended.
My advice.... wait for the dvd

    The Hobbit

    by diag10

I loved it. I loved the humor. Martin Freeman is amazing as Bilbo. The worst part for me was Radagast. Not sure what he adds to the storyline. I felt that the movie dragged during the Radagast part.
I had four of my kids with me, ages 13-19 and they all loved it!
I'm going to see it again in the theaters!

    Better than I expected

I was at first disappointed to hear that this single book was made into a trilogy of movies, thinking that three movies was a lot to stretch this story out. But after seeing the Hobbit, An Unexpected Journey, I was thoroughly entertained. A great deal of back story about Middle Earth and a ton of action, excellent CGI, kept my interest going for the 2 and a half hours. Maybe some embellishment over the original book, but it was all good. I'd see it again. Even though it's part of a trilogy, this movie can stand on its own.

A disappointing movie in comparison to the Lord of the Rings

When you look at this movie in comparison to LotR, it's a let-down. The quest isn't nearly as epic. The protagonists never seem to be in much danger. Without going into spoilers, the fellowship of the ring endured casualties that made the story more gripping because it reflected the gravity of the danger. These guys shrug off stuff that would have killed the whole fellowship outright.
