6 out of 10 - I got the feeling Peter Jackson and company had perfected their skills doing 'The Lord of the Rings' and were just going through the epic fantasy motions with this movie. The repetitious and bloated cycle of fight, flight, and encounter scenes eventually became tiresome, despite their beauty and the effort lavished on them. Extended way beyond its means, this somewhat empty and rather abruptly ended film doesn't have me overly excited about the remaining serial chapters to come. (3-Line Movie Reviews - Facebook)

I am a big Tolkien fan. I have read all of the Middle Earth books. I loved The Hobbit, but the movie was boring. I was wondering how they would make one book into three movies. They added fluff. First, there were excruciatingly long fight scenes. Second, they walked and walked and walked; we watched them do nothing but travel for a large portion of the movie. Third, non-book story elements were added to make it longer, they contributed nothing to the plot line. The cinematography was beautiful, but not any better or different than in the trilogy movies. In short, wait for video. It's worth a $1.20 at Redbox.

I was very much excited for "The Hobbit" but I was disappointed because I was expecting Peter Jackson to deliver another Oscar-caliber Middle Earth motion picture. Maybe my expectations were too high and the fault could have been mine but nevertheless, "The Hobbit" was fun. I thought Jackson did a good job in balancing the new characters with the familiar and it felt similar to "The Fellowship of the Ring" in terms of a collection of warriors off on an exciting journey to defeat a powerful evil but Bilbo and the collection of dwarves aren't the same as Frodo and his fellowship. It leaves a lot of room to improve in the upcoming movies but it isn't a bad start to a new franchise.

Went to the midnight showing and was definitely worth it! Same feel as the Lord of the Rings. Will be going to see it at the movies again!!

I was really excited to see this movie after reading the book. What a major let down... so DISAPPOINTING. I wanted to leave halfway through the film but my boyfriend wanted to watch the rest since we paid for it. Throughout the whole movie we were both shaking our heads. I understand that movies don't follow the book completely but most of them leave out information, not make things up. They completely changed how every event was suppose to happen. The only thing I liked was the HFR... looks really cool. I will NOT see the other 2 movies and if you're a true fan of the book you wouldn't either.
