Unexpected

I was just forced to see this movie with my friend because she loves lord of the rings. At first I thought it seemed like a lame movie. HOWEVER, during the movie my heart couldn't stop beating because of all the action scenes. It was disappointing that the movie took so long yet didn't actually complete the book. But overall, VERY WELL MADE

Loved The Hobbit

I loved this first part of The Hobbit. As a fan of Tolkien and his books, I was worried about what would and would not be included in the films. While there were changes from the book, they were for the most part small, and they did not greatly affect my overall opinion of the film. I liked that they went into more detail concerning the necromancer, making that an additional part of the story line instead of just a side note like it is in the book. I simply cannot express enough how perfect I think Martin Freeman is for the role of Bilbo. I am a huge fan of him as an actor and was so pleased with his performance. The riddle game was marvelous as well, everyone in the theater I went to was in fits of laughter through the whole thing. Loved it. One thing that bothered me a little was some of the CG effects looked a bit more video game-y than the other Lord of the Rings movies, but again it did not bother me much. There were things I didn't like, but the movie is wonderful.

Good Tolkien entertainment

I liked the movie overall. But I think the 48fps detracts from the experience. In sweeping pans of landscapes the scene blurs, not like normal motion blur but more like an out of focus blur, then as the pan slows to a stop the scene pops into focus. Aside from that it is an exciting story well played by all. A must see for all Tolkien fans.

Had a great time - a wild ride!

It was so fun to see my "old friends" again. The characters came back into my world with warm recollection and I enjoyed seeing them - especially in the earlier time. Saw it in the regular mode which I'm glad. We had thought possibly 3D, but after reading reviews, decided against it. Glad we did. It was sensational on the big screen. What a nice holiday treat!

Excellent movie! Will definitely go watch it again. What I liked the most was the change of scenery as the characters embarked on their journey whereas in the previous movies it showed them running around on mountains and plains. So much action and great character progression!
