This is exactly what I wanted to see when they turned The Hobbit into a movie -- I didn't know it at the time, but I know it now.
The casting was perfect. I had no problem at all with the inserted scenes -- it gave me more of Middle-Earth and I could have sat there for another hour and not minded.

I was highly impressed with the film rendition of The Hobbit. It began a little slow and cheesy for me, but then immediately picked up and became amazing!! Loved Shmegal, even more than before. I have no qualms with recommending it to everyone as a must see. I plan and seeing it many more times and purchasing it asap!

If you're going to see it in 3D, make sure you see it in HFR 3D. If you can't see it in HFR 3D, stick with 2D. There's too much action and incredible landscape shots to see it in 3D at 24 fps.
Also, don't expect The Hobbit to be as epic as The Return of the King. It's much more like The Fellowship of the Ring was for the first hour of it's run time, but it's also very different from The Lord of the Rings trilogy. So try to keep an open mind. Great movie! :D

The Hobbit was awful. There were so many monsters and so many battles that I thought I was watching transformers. It was hardly creative or beautiful.

The film was good. Definitely a must see to continue your story line of the Tolkien Saga. However, I felt that some aspects of this film were lacking. Most specifically, all the enemies were CGI. I really thought this took away from the film after how the enemies were done in Lord of the Rings.
