Great movie, if you a fan of the Rings films this one fits nicely. Most reviews I read complained of it being slow to develop. I thought it was great.

Best Yet!

This is now my favorite of the series, mostly because the characters seem more real, not as flashy and extreme as in the other 3 movies. I also appreciated the humor in The Hobbit: very subtle but with perfect comic timing. My only disappointment was that it ended - - - I could have watched this whole story unfold for hours more. Still, I'm glad to have the next two to look forward to; only wish they didn't keep a whole year between releases.

Picked up in a perfect place, made sense (except one item that know the films from before will see...hint, Gandalph caries it and so did Stryder in movies past) enjoyed every second, Middle Earth is real and we're going to visit again next year!!

Best adaptation of The Hobbit ever

The movie was totally worth the price and lack of sleep for the midnight premiere. It was extremely faithful to the book, adding new dimension to Tolkien's marvelous story-telling. The combination of special effects, computer animation and acting was seamless and believable. The characters were well-developed with lots of back-story to give depth to their role. The riddle scene in Gollum's cave was perfect! Many have lamented the length of 3 hours. I didn't want it to end! I'm ready to see it again, to read the original book again, to see the next installment. Marvelous job, Peter Jackson! Marvelous job!

Go see the Hobbit, purists stop whining

Even is you're a hard core Tolkien purist(like me), go see "The Hobbit." Yes, there are parts NOT in the book that were added, so what? Did it follow the book page for page? NO. So what. The important content is there, acting was good, photography was amazing, and it offers action, emotion to go with a steady story line. The 3-D was nicely and not over done. If you've never picked up a Tolkien book, it will have you amazed, knowing the established characters does help. I loved Gollum, that part was almost exactly according to the book. All-in-all, a definite 4/5 stars, and can't wait for the next movie!!
