If only this interminable road trip would have just covered the state of New Jersey instead of an eight day jaunt from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean; tedium reigns, with intermittent levity. A mother/son "Joyce" and "Andy" (Barbra Streisand/Seth Rogen) bond over predictable quips and tons of shtick; weary of the overbearing stereotype of the smothering "Jewish Mother" and the smothered, pampered boy (who is approaching forty); Jewish mothers do not have a monopoly on suffocation of their progeny. Avoiding blatant heavy-handedness, religion is never addressed in "The Guilt Trip"...
Streisand and Rogen, also producers, have chemistry and save the scenario from topping (or toppling) the saccharine scale; their histrionics realistic, salvaging, placating their emotional commitment...
TWO & 1/2 STARS!!

A perfect New Year Eve movie ...easy going ... laughter ... especially if you know or are on either end of mother -son relationship. We enjoyed it and recommend seeing it ... well written, acted and directed.

At best this would make an average movie for TV. I understand why people liked it...I wanted to like it, but IT JUST WASN'T FUNNY OR ALL THAT GOOD. Seth Rogan's acting job could have been done by a robot, and Barbra carried the movie with a good solid character. They really needed some great comedy writers to bother making this movie. Although it was easy to follow and had pleasant moments, on my scale of 'I paid $10. for this movie', I want $9.50 back!

If you want to see a lighthearted comedy, without the dirty jokes or a lot of explosions, go see this one. This was a great film. I thought Seth Rogen and Barbara Streisand had great chemistry in this one. There is a message being delivered here. I would highly recommend seeing this one. If you are expecting the dirty jokes and graphic scenes, u wont see it in this one. Just a good all around comedy....Go see It!!

but this movie wasn't bad. There were some really funny parts, and Barbara Streisand was perfectly cast as an overbearing Jewish mother. I just wish Seth Rogen was funnier? The movie felt so contrived and predictable, but at least it was sweet and delivered on good natured.
