Unlike most movies based off books, they leave details out or will forget about important aspects of the movie Gatsby did not. This movie was inline with the book too a tee. The acting was great, so was the directing. The 3D aspect did not add anything special to the movie. I must say this was definitely one of Toby McGuire's better roles. And like always DiCaprio was amazing.
All in all this was an amazing movie and I recommended everyone see it. Old sport.

As a huge Fitzgerald fan, I wasn't certain how I was going to react to this film. I can say it was visually stunning and colorful, definitely evoking the Golden era of the carefree early 1920's (specifically 1922). From the glorious parties at Gatsby's to Nick's charming guest house to the flashy Dusenberg cars, it is a sight to behold. A great deal of emphasis is placed in the details (monograms, jewelry, billboards, etc). They follow the story very closely, using dialogue from the book verbatim. Some times it sounds a little flowery and not how people talk, but that's just a sign of the times. They speak that way in the book, so you let it go. I wasn't sure about Leo as Gatsby, but when he finally makes his appearance, he owns the part in a larger than life way. The rest of the supporting cast is great, especially Joel Edgerton (Tom Buchanan). I know it isn't superheroes or alien robots, but it is a beautiful, elegant story of love & jealousy among the rich, definitely worth seeing.

Movie is stunning. Leonardo DiCaprio is a very!! good actor, and looks amazing in this role while the rest of the film crew is holing to the promise of the rocking 20s. I read the book a few times, and I was very moved by this adaptation into modern life.

I started getting into it and this was the first 3-D showing at our theater. The projector stoped right when it was getting good what a waste of an evening and $30.00

This movie was a great depiction of Fitzgerald's amazing story - a heartbreaking story of the tragic results of people chasing happiness without any regard to their personal integrity.
The visual palette of the movie is dazzling, from the costuming to the stunning mansions and glorious automobiles of Gatsby and Tom. These scenes of wealth and excess are contrasted by Nick's sensible cottage and the dreariness of the outskirts of New York City, where the bespectacled eyes of God see everything. The soundtrack is a curious mix of music from the '20's to modern rock and hip-hop. The modern music brings to life the atmosphere of excess lived by the sensate partygoers.
The reason I recommend this movie is that it made me consider how I make choices in life. Wrong choices can be enthrallingly addictive and seem seductively good in the moment. Living in honesty and integrity may be more mundane and arduous, but ultimately authentic and satisfying.
