This movie (not rating it compared to the book) was very good, and I really love Leonardo's role! Jay was Perfect. The score was pretty awesome and the camera technique was very different, but I loved it. Overall, this movie did evoke lots of emotion from me, so I say it was worth the watch!

I love Baz Luhrman and his style and The Great Gatsby definitely lived up to all the hype. I knew going in the music was going to be amazing but the story was just as strong and the acting was very well done, especially the leads-played to a tee by Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan. Take a shot on Gatsby and enter Baz's roaring 20's.

The movie was awesome! I had read some reviews and was a little worried but I left feeling great ! We went with friends and later over appetizers we all talked about what we enjoyed and found it very stimulating what we all got from the movie. The music I thought was ok even though it was current music it fit the movie. I would totally recommend the movie. The acting was right on and enjoyable as well as all the beautiful scenes and parties. Deep movie where there was romance, intrigue, suspense and a lot more.

I remember the 1974 version of "The Great Gatsby" with Robert Redford & Mia Farrow as being boring. This "Gatsby' is not boring. Baz Luhrman does a great job of bringing the Roaring 20's alive. The excess is there in vibrant color and 3-D that, in my opinion, is put to very, very good use. His direction, in a word, is excellent!
Leonardo DiCaprio is a perfect Jay Gatsby. He has the look, the style, and the vulnerability. Tobey Maguire has never been better. He only adds to the feel of the time and, as the narrator in the character of Nick Carraway, definitely draws the viewer into the film.
If nothing else, the film should get an Oscar nomination for Costume Design. They were perfect.
The movie is slow, but the story is slow. However, in this "Gatsby", slow is not boring.

The scenery, costumes and sets are absolutely beautiful. The movie is a bit overacted - Leo is gorgeous but his transition from super cool to blubbering idiot happens without much story in between and this lack of background story seems to be the problem with the whole movie. I was not invested in why he loved her so much so the premise of the movie didn't make much of an impact. Tobey Maguire was great, but I couldn't buy into Daisy or why Gatsby was obsessed with her. Carey Mulligan was cute, but not the stuff of great romantic leading ladies and I didn't shed a tear at the end, and I cry watching Hallmark commercials.
