One of the best "boxer from the 'hood" movies...
Having seen almost every movie made about the struggles of fighters, the concept wasn't exactly thrilling. However, this one is different. And a big reason is the amazing story and acting. If you're like me, and think Christian Bale is a douche (the infamous rant on tape) you should see this movie to understand that this guy takes his job seriously. Not only did I not recognize him immediately, but once I did, it only took about two minutes to get over my personal feelings and appreciate what this guy does with this role. I have not read how he prepared (as the supporting actor) for this part, but he did it 110% from start to finish. Mark Wahlberg and he do a fantastic job of playing brothers in a dysfunctional suburban (poor) household. The family dynamics are both hilarious and sad. If it weren't midnight when we finished watching this, I think my wife and I would have watched it again. The rest of the supporting cast is well placed, interesting, and make the film very real
