Dark Knight Showdown: Batman vs. Green Lantern – Tell Us Who Wins and You Could Win $50 Fandango Bucks

By: Derrick Deane on June 18, 2012 at 2:32PM Comments (106)

This contest is now closed. Stay tuned as The Dark Knight's week two opponent will be revealed later today (and you'll have a chance to win $50 Fandango Bucks again). As for this showdown, The Dark Knight triumphs 59-29, but there were certainly plenty of acknoledgements that Lantern would make it a tough bout.

With just over a month to go before we find out how Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy ends, it's time to give away some Fandango Bucks! For those of you who joined us for our month-long Avengers Showdowns last month, this is going to work the same way, but we're bumping the prize money up.

Simply tell us who would win in the following showdown and why by Sunday, June 24, 11:59 p.m. PST and you will be entered to win a $50 The Dark Knight Rises collectible Fandango Bucks card. The cards will go on sale to the general public beginning June 27th. You must be 18 or over to enter and one comment per entrant.

Ok, so let's get to it! Rather than have Batman take on the usual cast of villains ranging from The Joker, Bane, Riddler, etc., we're turning the tables on Mr. Wayne. We want to see where he stands in the echelon of DC Comics superheroes. Sure, die hard Batman fans are going to say there is no one better than the Caped Crusader, but let's see about that.

His first opponent is Green Lantern. Whether that means Alan Scott or Hal Jordan is Lantern to you or you prefer Guy Gardener, John Stewart or Kyle Rayner, the choice is up to you. We just want to know if Batman can defeat him.

Since Batman is a regular human being, there's no sense in listing any superpowers (since he has none), although, as Jack Nicholson's Joker quite memorably put it, he's got a lot of cool toys.

The Green Lantern on the other hand, possesses a power ring that can generate a variety of effects, sustained by his imagination and strength of will. The greater the willpower, the more effective the ring. Power rings can generate force fields, block out telepathic attacks, render invisibility, flight, teleportation, hypnosis and a whole host of other cool tricks.

Lantern is definitely a tough first round opponent for Mr. Wayne. Can he defeat Lantern and if so, how? Go to it Bat-fans!

Batman would definitely win!! Hal Jordon is impulsive and never thinks out his actions. Batman however is cunning and highly intelligent. He would come up with a plan to get Hal Jordan's ring and have it off his finger long before Hal can come up with some goofy way to fight off Batman!!!

While Batman is much smarter than the Green Lantern, I think the Green Lantern could easily beat Batman if he really set his mind to it because his powers are vastly superior to Batman's.

While every Batman movie was better than the Green Lantern fiasco, the suggestion that Batman has any chance against the power of the Ring of Will is fanciful. There is no "toy" that Batman can utilize that the Green Lantern cannot replicate or exceed with his ring. Batman's gadgets take up space, so that he can only have access to what he can carry or store nearby, where the ring is self-contained. Ring weapons do not run out of ammo, Batman's do. Anything that the Green Lantern's mind can imagine, the ring can create instantly. He can defend any Bat-attack. He can counter with supernatural forces that Batman could never hope to defend. The Green Lantern can fly, where Batman needs vehicles. Not even close. Batman is cooler though.

Batman can get the chance to study the powers from the Ring, as he'll know it's weaknesses and try to find a way to use them. Also, Batman can perform sneak attacks in dark areas due to dark colors on his costume, and if Green Lantern somehow lost the ring, then Batman would be able to catch him and beat him in hand-to-hand combat. Green Lantern has his powers from the ring, which is a huge advantage against the Dark Knight, as a lot of Batman's tools are useless. However, Green Lantern would need willpower to get the ring working, but knowing that he wouldn't fight another superhero, he wouldn't have the will power. On the other hand, Batman doesn't need willpower to fight. Batman is probably the winner here.

Batman wins the fight with ease. With the ability to siren in a wave of bats from his cave to create a diversion, batman can easily batarang the ring or any other jewelry on the incredibly tough looking, spandex wearing Green Lantern, rendering his planetary powers useless. After that, it is no problem to wrangle the Lantern up in some high tech zip line and drag him to Arkham where he will spend his remaining days in art class, decorating his costume with rhinestones and glitter.

If the fight happens spontaneously, I'd say Green Lantern puts Batman in a green bubble, hauls him to space, and leaves him there. If Batman knows the fight is coming, he outsmarts GL at some point and wins the fight. Probably by getting the ring.

If they fought 10 times Green Lantern would win 8 of the 10 glorious battles!! Why? Green Lanterns super powers vastly overwhelms Batmans gadgets/superpowers. Batman would win 2 of the battles because of his detective reasoning skills, intelligence, cunning strategy and brute desire to win!! Now in the movie Box office battle Batman clearly blows away Green Lantern even if you compare one of Nolans Batman Box office receipts to the last Green Lantern non- animated movie. Nolans Batmans box office receipts devastates Green Lanterns box Receipts making Hong Kong Phooey tons of money and making Hong Kong Phooey THE CLEAR WINNER!!! YES!!! Go Hong Kong Phooey!!! #1 Super Guy!!!! To World Peace Dennis Johnson

Going on purely gut reaction I'd say Batman, because I enjoy him better as a superhero. After some thought though, I'd probably say GL because of his versatility.

The Green Lantern Is way more powerful and still cunning so nine times out of ten he would win. Batman is a genius and master strategist. He would figure out a way to exploit the lantern's one major weakness: Fear. Batman knows how to use fear.

Batman would win due to the fact that anyone with any brains at all knows that Alfred is the true mastermind and tactician! Without Alfred as the mastermind all these years, the Batman would have bit the dust years ago!
