Dark Knight Showdown: Batman vs. Green Lantern – Tell Us Who Wins and You Could Win $50 Fandango Bucks

By: Derrick Deane on June 18, 2012 at 2:32PM Comments (106)

This contest is now closed. Stay tuned as The Dark Knight's week two opponent will be revealed later today (and you'll have a chance to win $50 Fandango Bucks again). As for this showdown, The Dark Knight triumphs 59-29, but there were certainly plenty of acknoledgements that Lantern would make it a tough bout.

With just over a month to go before we find out how Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy ends, it's time to give away some Fandango Bucks! For those of you who joined us for our month-long Avengers Showdowns last month, this is going to work the same way, but we're bumping the prize money up.

Simply tell us who would win in the following showdown and why by Sunday, June 24, 11:59 p.m. PST and you will be entered to win a $50 The Dark Knight Rises collectible Fandango Bucks card. The cards will go on sale to the general public beginning June 27th. You must be 18 or over to enter and one comment per entrant.

Ok, so let's get to it! Rather than have Batman take on the usual cast of villains ranging from The Joker, Bane, Riddler, etc., we're turning the tables on Mr. Wayne. We want to see where he stands in the echelon of DC Comics superheroes. Sure, die hard Batman fans are going to say there is no one better than the Caped Crusader, but let's see about that.

His first opponent is Green Lantern. Whether that means Alan Scott or Hal Jordan is Lantern to you or you prefer Guy Gardener, John Stewart or Kyle Rayner, the choice is up to you. We just want to know if Batman can defeat him.

Since Batman is a regular human being, there's no sense in listing any superpowers (since he has none), although, as Jack Nicholson's Joker quite memorably put it, he's got a lot of cool toys.

The Green Lantern on the other hand, possesses a power ring that can generate a variety of effects, sustained by his imagination and strength of will. The greater the willpower, the more effective the ring. Power rings can generate force fields, block out telepathic attacks, render invisibility, flight, teleportation, hypnosis and a whole host of other cool tricks.

Lantern is definitely a tough first round opponent for Mr. Wayne. Can he defeat Lantern and if so, how? Go to it Bat-fans!

Batman would win. If the Tower of Babel comic taught us anything, it was that Batman knew how to take down even his allies. Since Green Lantern has a weakness (yellow) but Batman has none, it is pretty easy to say that Batman would exploit that weakness and take Green Lantern down.

I would chose Batman over green lantern hands down. Batman can utilize scarecrow fear gas and will simply over power green lantern in minutes. Take note Fear is the opposite of Will, leaving green lantern like a little scared green kitty.lol

Batman would win of course not only is he smart he has many gadgets at his disposal to use agaisnt the Green latern, it would be a very interesting battle though because The Green Latern does have super power but In the Justice Leauge of America or JLA for short the graphic novel "Tower of Babel", Ra's Al Gul steals information from Batman's computer that contained all the weaknesses of each JLA member and ways to exploit them. so yeah he knows how to beat him.

Batman would use Wayne Enterprises to buy Hal's apartment complex. Since Hal left his ring and lantern in the apartment, he has nothing left to fight Batman. Batman wins.

(Continued, Part III.) Remember, Green Lantern is just a man with a ring. Batman can handle that. Strategy would be the key point in winning this battle. After bombarding Green Lantern with a flurry of offensive attacks, Batman would go into defensive, leaving the battered and confused Lantern searching for him. The next attack would be practical but efficient. Using either the explosive gun from the Dark Knight or the new unveiled weapon featured in multiple trailers for his new movie, Batman could stun Green Lantern with his explosives, proceed to distract his enemy with smoke pellets and batarangs, go to work with more offensive KFM fighting moves featured in the soon-to-be trilogy, and then while Hal's distracted, finish it.

(Continued.) Batman also has an arsenal of some of the most dangerous weapons that he could use without fatally hurting someone. Even so, when put to the right use, these gadgets could without a doubt harm the Green Lantern. Sure, Green Lantern can summon up a shield with his mind but what happens when he can't see his enemy? What happens when he has to look fear in the eye? Will he blink? Most likely. Despite the fact that this version of Batman is from a completely different universe than that of pre-reboot Batman and post-reboot Batman, Batman is still feared by many, man and women alike. There is also the fact that Batman is one of the most skilled fighters alive.

I'd have to say Batman. Besides the fact that Green Lantern wields an otherworldy ring that allows him to create whatever he can think of in his mind for another amount of time, Batman is one of the most, if not the most, dangerous men in his world. He's faced impossible odds before and have surpassed them no matter what his enemies throw at him. In the Nokia trailer for the Dark Knight Rises, a disheveled Bruce Wayne states; "I'm not scared, I'm angry." Green Lantern, despite belonging to a core that uses willpower as their greatest weapon, uses fear from time to time. Batman has mastered his fears, locking them away deep down with his emotions and love for Rachel Dawes. Batman, in essence, would overcome Green Lantern.

Not mention the fact that without their power rings, none of the human Green Lanterns would stand a chance against him. Their rings are really their only edge.

It would totally depend on the situation. If it was straight up fight or if Green Lantern surprised Batman (a difficult feat in and of itself), then GL would probably mop the floor with him. But if Batman knew that Green Lantern was coming or was hunting him down, then victory would probably go to the Dark Knight. Batman isn't called the Worlds Greatest Detective for nothing. He's also highly trained and has a lot of experience. He's a master of tactical engagements and his brilliant mind for strategic planning. He always stacks the deck in his favor and never gives his opponents an even chance. He would do everything in his considerable power to face GL at a time and place of his own choosing, and would use every advantage that he could

Batman is the world's greatest detective! He would be able to determine that the rings only weakness is yellow objects and use something yellow against the Green Lantern. The fight would be over in no time.

Batman wins because he has the money, technology, and intelligence to prepare any fight. According to "The Tower of Babel", a 2000 DC comic book series Batman secretly kept file of weaknesses for all of the JLA superheros due to his paranoia if any of them were mind controlled or went rouge. The GL, Kyle, was, "rendered blind by his own power ring from a post-hypnotic suggestion introduced while he was asleep and the ring placed on him at night. As an artist, Kyle is unable to function without his vision to guide the ring's power, but he is able to overcome the post-hypnotic suggestion after his ring is temporarily removed and the methods behind the attack are explained to him. Batman would use another strategy and then defeat him.

Batman has a genius level intellect with fighting skills that are matched by maybe two or three people on the planet. GL is a test pilot who doesn’t think too many steps ahead, where as Batman is 10 steps ahead with contingencies for his contingencies. Batman would be well aware of any weaknesses GL had, and even if he wasn’t aware, he could deduce what they were. Batman also uses fear (the emotion that corresponds to the yellow spectrum which GL is defenseless). Batman would exploit these weaknesses, make sure any threats were neutralized, and render Green Lantern powerless. In the comics he has defeated GL once (bable), and had to stop Robin from killing him another time. And if Robin can kill GL, I'm pretty sure Batman can handle him.

Seriously, its Batman. He has already studyed all villains AND superheroes for their flaws and weaknesses and has come up with contingency plans should the heroes go rogue. Plus he wouldn't just show up in enemy territory unless he had a plan. Personally I think he would bring the Lantern to the battleground of his choosing, and by then the Lantern would have already lost. The Bat doesnt even have to physically touch him all he has to do is break his will and leave him in a state of fear and self regret and the Lantern would have to kill the Bat for him to give up. The Bat wins nuff said.
