    Just go see it...now preferably

I'm still stunned and I'm still excited...This is the best Batman ever made. Heath Ledger's performance is one of the best I've ever seen in my life. Very eerie, at that. I saw Batman Begins on IMAX 4 times and I'll probably go see this one 6 times...Don't read about it, don't watch any trailers, just go see it. I swear there is not one ounce of disappointment in the whole 2 1/2 hours of cinematic glory. Also, if there is an IMAX near you do NOT see it on a regular 35mm format! Nolan meant this to be a IMAX powerhouse. I will not go see it on the regular screen. Christian Bale is as suave as ever and the twist will keep you on the edge of your seat the WHOLE time. There isn't many words possible to describe this none other than, THIS FILM IS THE WHOLE REASON WE ARE IN LOVE WITH THE THEATER EXPERIENCE!

If you believe that Bruce Wayne can dress like a Bat...

    by

.... then you're already way ahead of the curve on this one. Yes, I'm sure you've heard about Ledger's outstanding performance as the Joker - but it's not just a "say-nothing-ill-of-the-dead" review. It's a truly original, as well as faithful performance. Jack Nicholson didn't really perform the genius of the Joker as much as his craziness; it was more like Nicholson doing macabre vaudeville. It wasn't the real Joker. This is the real Joker through and through, but re-envisioned with a dose of realism.
The entire cast is the strongest of any recent movie I've seen, but I will say there's one moment where Bale's raspy voice as the Dark Knight is kind of awkward. No movie's perfect, but this one may well inspire a three-time viewing.

The Dark Knight: The IMAX Experience

This movie is awesome. I've seen it three times, all three times at an IMAX theater. The story is realistic, the story is memorable, the story is entertaining but most of all, Heath Ledger steals the show. I agree with what I'd heard, that he buried Jack Nicholson's Joker. Granted, Jack's performance was twenty years ago and times have changed but let's be real. Twenty years from now, should there be a new series of Dark Knight movies, I'd place my bet tonight that Heath's performance can't be bested. I can't wait till it's on cable in hi-def and I know I'll own the DVD once it comes out. Hallelujah to having Batman back with a vengeance. Joel Schumacher ruined the franchise years ago but Christopher Nolan put it back where it belongs. On top.

    AMAZING visual feast

    by ktoken

If you liked "Batman Begins" you will not be disappointed in "The Dark Knight". Christian Bale nails his performance, and the rest of the cast were as good as to be expected. Maggie Gyllenhaal's version of Rachel Dawes left a little to be desired but at least I didn't have to suffer through seeing Katie Holmes again BLECH. Of course, it might not have been Gyllenhaal's acting as much as it was the lack of material she had to work with. Last but certainly not least, I have to single out Ledger's Joker as by far one of the most amazing things I have seen. He poured every tiny morsel of his heart and soul into it...psychotic, magnificent, frightening, tragic, moving, heartbreaking and yet so hauntingly beautiful it is emotionally exhausting to watch. I feel drained and all I did was sit and take it in. His life ended after he gave his absolute best performance. He deserves every conceivable award for this role, not out of pity because it was his last, but because it was truly his finest.

Simply the Best Comic Movie Ever

What a tremendous film this was. When it was over, I really couldn't do anything except clap and shake my head. It transcendent of a comic book film and took more the shape of an urban crime drama, that incorporated certain fantastic elements.

Though I think very highly of a number of films from this genre, this is the only one I rank a 10. It's just masterful. The character portrayals (especially as compared to their comic counterparts), the thematic messages, the action sequences etc. I was most impressed with the Batman/Joker dynamic; it's one of the finest rivalries in all of fiction and was a joy to see come to life in such a manner.

The Dark Knight does live up to it's PG-13 rating. The violence, implied and shown, isn't really child's fare. However, for those of us who are into or beyond our teenage years, this is a sure treat. The message of heroism is resoundingly trumpeted in an end exchange that truly speaks to why Batman continues to captivate audiences.

    The Dark Knight Doesn't Disappoint

I stayed away from the theatres for a month because I detest crowds. I also wanted to wait and hear what others had to say about the movie. A lot of conversation centered around the late Heath Ledger and his performance as the Joker.

One month after the release, I broke down and went to see the film. It did not disappoint. One month later and it's still showing to nearly sold-out movie-goers. And yes, Heath Ledger's performance was one of the best in the movie. This being said, I don't think he was the only one to perform splendidly in the film. Michael Cain, Morgan Freeman, and Gary Oldman surpassed m expectations.

If you haven't seen this film yet, I would highly recommend it. I actually wouldn't mind seeing it again.

    Bitter Sweet

I found myself shaken after seeing the Dark Knight. It was by far the best movie I have seen this summer and possibly ever. However, knowing I will never get to see Heath Ledger reprise his role as Joker leaves me feeling sad. After all the hype I was a little bit skeptical, yet as he took over the film and made me anxiously await the next scene he would be in, I knew that he lived up to the high hopes and well beyond. For those of you who say the movie was too long, I couldn't disagree more. While it was a long film and there were a few places where the movie could have have ended, I was more than relieved each time the film continued on. Seeing it on the IMAX screen was spectacular. It felt as if I was included in each action scene. I honestly do not see how they could possibly make another Batman movie after this one. It surpassed the original, and now that Ledger has passed, the next one doesn't stand a chance (especially with talks of casting Cher as Catwoman). See this movie!

    It Doesn't Get Much Darker

    by waywick

Chirstopher Nolan's "Batman: The Dark Knight" is by far the deepest and most disturbing Batman film yet. Combining stunning all around visuals, a multi-layered and convincing plot, and the greatest performance of a generation in Heath Ledger as the Joker, The Dark Knight is unforgettable.

Robert Downey, Jr. may argue that the story is overly complex and confusing, it may also be argued that complexity is something most modern stories and indeed characters sorely lack.

Despite strong performances throughout, Ledger's Joker is legendary. Nicholson was a cartoon character; Ledger is exactly what the Joker was when introduced in the DC Comic Batman #1 - a criminally insane, psychopathic killer with a taste for blood and anarchy. Chaos is his muse and his actions betray logic, which makes him all the scarier.

Do not miss this film, if only to treat yourself to Ledger's swan song. His will go down as one of the greatest in cinematic history.

    BEST IN A LONG TIME

I went to see this movie with my wife who was quite resistant to the idea. To start with I would like to state that the Batman Returns movie was amazing and should have been a hit as well as this one. As far as this movie goes, we saw it at 12:01 am in IMAX. The movie was for lack of a better world phenominal. Character development and casting were top flight, every charachter fit perfectly and you felt this movie was taking place with real people. The plot was full of interesting twist and turns, so much so that by the end of the movie you had no idea who should be trusted. The way that the charachters interacted was spine tingling and joker was amazing and eccentric, you hated him and loved him at the same time. Make up and costumes were deep and well thought,as were the gadgets, while not getting to much attention (Ironman). It seemed as if every move and word spoken in this movie was forshadowing or setting up a later action or end. My wife loved it and so did I.

The Dark Night - A San Francisco Review

    by Unicorn

    Greetings,

I have just arrived home from seeing the midnight IMAX 1st showing here in San Francisco of The Dark Knight. To avoided spoilers, I will say the following instead.

This movie is so good, I now have tickets for a second showing again on IMAX this coming Wednesday night.

The movie itself is full of action from the start, only slowing down long enough to let you catch your breath… pick up your jaw, before like a wild roller coaster ride you are taken over the next drop and let go, to free fall all over again.

Although everyone in this movie had their moment, some several, it was Mr. Ledger?s performance that literally had my jaw hanging down and me left speeches for several minutes at a time. Gone to soon, but HE will never be forgotten, nor can anyone every replace what he has now made his own.

I can?t wait to see this movie again, because in my eyes I give it a full solid 5 stars.

The best IMAX motion picture ever

I have to admit- there have been a number of films that I've seen after extremely good hype only to be very disappointed after finally seeing the movie. (ie- Knocked up). BUT- The Dark Knight not only lived up to the hype but exceeded it in every way. The IMAX experience was incredible. The cinematography was awesome and if Heath Ledger doesn't get a nomination for best actor- I will be shocked. 3/4 of the way through the movie- I found myself even more upset that Heath Ledger was gone because while witnessing him as the Joker- I was extremely disappointed that I wouldn't get to see this incredible actor in anything else again. Yes- there are a few loose ends (what ultimately happens to the Joker?, Why was the Scarecrow brought back for a cameo- seemed kind of out of place? And aren't there just a few other people that know what Harvey Dent actually did?) Those are MINOR setbacks however in an otherwise wonderful cinematic experience!
