Doesn't fit into any previous style - unique and amazing

     by  starx95

Very quirky, odd and unique. We loved it. The LA times review really said it best with "Wilson, Brody and Schwartzman are like a contemporary, depressive version of the Three Stooges, and there's something inspired about Anderson's decision to cast them as brothers. " They are all trying to deal with the death of their father and abandonment by their mother - you may not like them, but they're strangely real and you can't deny the 'flow' of the story is spot on. Superb acting and direction. Wish we hadn't waited so long to see it!

    a great journey.

This is, all in all, a quirky comedy with great substance. I love Anderson's work, who has a wonderful style which is best conveyed through this film. The scenery is bright and lovely, and the "spiritual journey" the three brothers take as they learn to cope with their father's death (highlighted by a perfect cameo by Bill Murray), symbolized by a haphazard trip on the Darjeeling Limited, is really quite charming. They grow not only as individuals, but as one united by brotherly love. The best part about this film is that it accomplishes this theme without any real drama; it captures the simple charm of a short film and extends it throughout an hour and a half of delight.

Furthermore, I enjoyed Hotel Chevalier... a wonderfully authentic short about Jack's previous relationship, referenced multiple times throughout TDJ. This emphasis in the feature film further establishes the idea of letting go and accepting life's journey. Be sure to see HC as well.

    A favorite for me...

     by  spoothed

This movie was endearing. I really enjoyed the family dysfunction (whose family isn't dysfunctional, especially with 3 siblings?). The guys that make these movies have really honed their skills in representing the typical American family in atypical scenarios. This movie is easier to follow, more enjoyable, and more sophisticated than The Royal Tennenbaums. As usual, the use of classic rock or classic pop music to highlight the mood of a scene, combined with an artist's eye for camera shots, creates a really unique viewing experience. I highly recommend, and it is a favorite for me but some may not care for the style of storytelling.

I must admit I love Wes Anderson, and every actor in this film. I saw it twice, and liked it more the second time I saw it. Very irreverent sweet and charming. Great story. Great setting. Great movie.

No wonder Owen thought of suicide

I am a huge fan of Owen Wilson. This movie was a bore.
