The Curiosity of Chance
This was a great little film. The lead character was a great mixture of intelligence, self-confidence, resiliece, insightfulness, and sassiness. While he had many characteristics that would define him as gay, he was no clone or stereotype or cookie-cutter figure, but rather quite individual. A superb performance by an unknown actor. His interplay with the two definite friends and the one hesitant friend was great, and the juxtaposition against his macho military father's psyche was solid. The interwoven storyline about Principal Smelker was great comedic relief. The film was a pleasant surprise.
My only caveat is that it didn't seem realistic that neither the intelligent, self-respecting boy nor his fearless military father did anything to stop the bully's harassment, which included actual assault and battery. One of them should have called the police, or at least complained to the principal.
