Took my granddaughter who is 9. We both loved it and the 3D effect was the best I have seen yet. Absolutely adorable movie. I give it a thumbs up!

A fun family movie

We took our six year old son and eight year old daughter to see the Croods 3D and they both enjoyed it, as did we. They're not ones to like anything too scary or violent, or too action-packed, and this hit the right blend of mild scares, chases, action, and comedy. It was heavy on slapstick, which worked well for us. Most of all the story was quite good; touching but not overly sappy. The 3D worked well overall, though in a couple of spots they went for effects that were a bit dizzying. The story line does provide good fodder for conversation with kids afterwards, there's a lot they can learn from it and think about, but there is also a lot to laugh about after, too.

Loved it! This is one of those movies that the kids love and the parents can sit through happily. We'll be one of the first in line to buy it when it's released.

Visual effects were great, story was flat

True to form, Dreamworks always does a tremendous job with the stunning visual effects of these movies. As well, the characters and voicings (i.e., actors behind the characters) were enjoyable. But to me what truly makes a tremendous movie - one that I both I and my 4 children, ages 3-7 , can enjoy - is a strong story, and that to me fell short. The story seemed to be an attempt at focusing on a coming of age tale between a young teen girl and an overprotective father, but was hard to tell where the story was going at times. And planet earth exploding and collapsing on itself all over the place seemed to be the 'compelling event' to drive father and daughter to better understanding each other, but it in of itself was often its own distracting spectacle, that didn't make sense why it was happening, and it wound up scaring the kids at times. Some of the characters were indeed endearing, but both myself and the kids wound up collectively losing interest halfway through the film.
