Art within Art

Filmed in black and white, the natural light and shadows enhanced art as the subject. The acting was superb and the characters were well developed, especially those of the artist and the model. I expected a little more tension in the story line with the presence of the German officer and underground defector yet was happy for it not to go off in that direction. At times it moved a bit slow but by doing so it drove home the point of how long and agonizing the creative process can be and thus more realistic. The nudity was truly portrayed as artful beauty and not vulgar. Subtitles were easy to follow because there was not a lot of unnecessary dialogue and was at a pace where I could enjoy the beautiful scenes rather than frantically reading just to keep up. Enjoyed the movie and would recommend seeing it if you are an art house, foreign film fan.
