Revealing a lost art

Few of us are old enough or movie-crazed enough to have watched full silent movies. Until now. The Artist is a terrific display of acting without sound. Compelling acting performances by Dujardin, Bejo, Goodman and Cromwell highlight this lost art. Well worth seeing.

A phenomenal movie. The acting is soooo good. Dujardin and Bejo should definitely win Oscars. It's amazing how a silent movie could be so engaging. It just highlights the acting. All the details were perfect.

Definitely Different--in a Surprisingly GOOD Way!

Figured I HAD to see this (what with all the Oscar hoop-la!) and must say I was pleasantly surprised at how entertaining and engrossing a silent black and white film could still be. Both leads were highly photogenic and charismatic--you really couldn't keep your eyes off them as they expertly communicated the full range of emotions completely via their facial expressions and body language. The story wasn't new but it was still appealing with a sweet, nostalgic tone. Unfortunately I doubt if many kids, teens or adults under 35 would really appreciate this film as it lacks non-stop action, nudity or locker-room humor. But more mature viewers and true film buffs will find a lot to like.

I'm speechless

Michel Hazanavicius has hit the ball out of the park with The Artist, but you already know that. I was happy to be introduced to Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo, though the French have been enjoying both of them for quite a long time (and the Argentinians, as Ms. Bejo has one parent from Buenos Aires). It's really a charming film, good for friends and lovers and family and probably your pet dog, particularly if it's a female Jack Russell. Very much worth seeing, and a certain win for Best Picture (you've got my word).

Really fooled me. I've never seen a silent film and thought I was going to be bored to death. Instead it was a fascinating, engrossing emotion-grabbing experience, well deserving of its Best Picture Oscar nomination. I still can't figure out how they did it! A must see.
