'The Apparition' Will Soon Haunt the Bargain Bins

In a summer devoid of horror movies, one would hope that maybe there's ripened fruit for thrillseekers and horror junkies this August. 'The Apparition,' which is one of two high profile horror titles at the end of this summer, is unfortunately not the saving grace for genre fans.

'The Apparition' starts out strong with a very nice build, and leaves plenty of questions which could have led to some great set pieces. However, the film's short running time ruins the pace by leaving you with all the money shots first and an uninspired, drawn out ending sequence that falls flat and wreaks of laziness. In other words, this movie could have done wonders with its premise, but instead becomes a case of what seems to be severe writer's block; after an hour, you'll start to see the creativity wane worse than co-star Tom Felton's post-Harry Potter career.

Final thought: I'm sure this film will have a very long life on cable so don't let it scare 10 bucks out of your pocket just yet.

    True Apparition

They had an apparition this movie would be good enough to release at the theatres. This was horrible, bad acting, cheesy dialog..just a bad movie. In four months you will see it at best buy, completely stocked and for five bucks.

    Weird But Not Scary

Story line was weird and absurd, with no really good foundation. It was not at all what I expected, more like a poor-man's ripoff of the "Paranormal" series. I have to say that the trailer is well put together, taking a scary few seconds here and there and making it look like it might be a really good horror flick. Not.

    So-so

The main concept of the movie was good, but the ending was horrible. It was mainly for teenagers if you ask me. The acting was good and the camera wasn't one of those shaky films. I honestly think it's not worth it. Just wait to go rent it at block buster. I might be 15 but I know my horror movies... Stick with The Amityville Horror.

    Crazy

    by best35d

Saw this movie the day it opened and although it starts out ok, it loses it luster very fast and the ending was sad and left you feeling like Did I really just sit through that whole movie. If you have seen it stay away not sure its even worth watching on DVD.

    What a letdown!

    by

This movie had the potential to be unique and inventive. However, it just fell flat on its face. There were definitely some really cool scares built into the movie but the ending was just way too rushed. Like they were filming along just fine and then suddenly realized that they only had 15 minutes worth of film left and they just breezed through the end.

More could have been done with this movie. So much more. It just failed. Plus their tag line is wrong - once you believe, you die? That wasn't what it ended with - it was once you give up fighting, you die.

This movie is not worth the time nor the $11 price for the ticket. Skip it.

    Horrible, Horrible, Horrible

I was really hoping for a paranormal horror and what I saw was a horrible "film." The only movie that I've seen that was worse than this was Chernobyl Diaries. Waste of time, money, and loss of brain cells that I'll never get back again.

    Bad

    by

The premise was not good. The story was poorly written. The "stars" were flat. Tom Felton should be ashamed to be associated with this film. The director should start saving cardboard boxes because he will need a place to live after a movie like this. I would not even suggest you see it at all. My review is probably better written than this movie (which is sad).

    worst movie ever basically

Unless you want to spend an hour and a half of your life, and like $11 to see a movie that made absolutely no sense... don't even think of watching this. I feel like I knew more information about the movie going into it then I did after it was over. Well to say the least it had no plot. It was hands down the most confusing thing I have ever seen. The trailer doesn't even fit the movie. The acting was beyond terrible. I wanted Ashley Greene to die just because of how annoying she is. **** just happened randomly and nothing was explained until the last 5 minutes and thats not saying much. Not scary at all. And.... it just sucked. Top 5 worst movies of all time. Go see the Dark Knight Rises or something if you want a good movie

    it was ok

I was so excited to see this movie, the preview looked great and thought it was going to be full of suspense and great horror. what a disappointment. It dragged in the beginning, there were not enough scary moments for me. It had some cool moments but not til towards the end of the movie. I was confused as the preview and promo indicated "once you believe you die" which really was not talked about in the movie so it didn't make sense to me. The actress who played the lead was just awful. She could not act and it distracted me from the story.

I swear if this "movie" gets a sequel...

    by

...because the ending kinda left an opening for a sequel. As if, Todd Lincoln.

Overdone inclusion of found footage aside, the moment the dialogue began, I thought we'd bought tickets for "Saved By The Bell: The Haunted Halloween". The writing was just awful. Without giving too much away, there's some inexplicable secret-keeping that's not very well justified in the end. Also, there were many moments where the director seemed to be building up to a scare only to completely let the viewer down, kind of like cinematic blue you-know-whats.

As for the acting, well, let's just say Ashley Greene better be glad she's hot (although she really shines during scenes where she's pissed off). I don't know what was up with Sebastian Stan's haircut - I know it's not important to the plot, but it will get to you. If you decide to see it, you'll understand.

I'm very sorry Tom Felton got caught up in this movie. Also, one spoiler - there is a total "Ju-On" rip in this movie. Eyes were rolled.

    What a mess...

    by

Not only was this COMPLETELY different from what they marketed it as... It is filled with plot holes, bad acting, and rips MANY scenes straight from other movies...

Ashley Greene + Lingerie = Saved from "Oh No!" Status

    by

Honestly the five minutes of Ashley Greene in undies saved this film from being deemed "Oh No!" It's so bad I hardly want to write a review about it. The tag line, "Once you believe you die," played almost no role whatsoever in the film. In fact, I don't exactly know who or what DID play a role in this film. This movie is FUBAR from start to finish and the worst part is that it's like it didn't know it. I can appreciate a bad horror that knows it's bad (ala the "Piranha" series) but this was just painful to watch. Zero chemistry between Ashley Greene and the poor guy playing her boyfriend. Not even a Draco Malfoy cameo could add excitement. So what are you to do to pick up a bad horror? That's right, super sexy scenes with a hot chick, and this movie has one of the hottest as the lead, or awesomely clever kill scenes. We were given five minutes of basically a bikini bottom and some uber lame deaths. Oh, and an ending that makes less sense than this movie actually being green-lit.

    Don't watch this movie.TRUST ME!

Don't believe the hype. There's nothing scary in this movie at all. It's just one of the worst "scary" movies ever. It's just one of the worst movies of all time in general. Good thing I rented it and didn't watch it in theaters. I sacrificed over 85 minutes of my life watching this horrible movie to warn you not to ever watch it. If you don't believe the bad stuff I've said about this film, then go waste 85 minutes of your life watching it. Just believe me on this one. It's just really bad.
