Both my kids loved it. I was in the 'meh' category. I've seen the original story already. Was hoping for something a little different. It picked up in the last half ....

If you've been reading the reviews and are still on the fence I suggest you go see this movie! I loved it more then the originals. Better story and better acting. Tobey was good but Andrew is great! Very believable on what Peter would have been if this took place in high school.

Entertaining, but misses the mark

This movie will likely disappoint purists as director Webb takes too many liberties with the Spider-man origin tale. But let's put that aside for the moment. Taken on face value, the movie is solid escapist entertainment, but the nagging feeling is that the very talented actors are floundering with a poorly conceived script. I wanted this film to work, but the first Spider-man had much more heart and soul. Also, despite the outstanding special effect tools available, the look of lizard is almost cheesy. Marvel has hit a speed bump with this one.

The Impressive Spider-Man to be accurate

I wasn't as amazed as I hoped I would be at this reboot but I thought this movie was a job well done in staying faithful to the Spider-Man mythology. Marc Webb proved himself up to the task of keeping the Spidey/Parker alter-ego complex to his awkward, intelligent, righteous self and pacing the story of how he became Spider-Man by staying honest to what happened on his hero's journey and the obstacles that he had to overcome. Garfield proved himself worthy of carrying the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler's mantle and Emma Stone was perfect as Gwen Stacy. Rhys Ifans brought the right kind of tragic creepiness to Lizard and Dennis Leary was fine as Capt. Stacy. I found the story less-impactful than the original McGuire/Raimi rendition but it was faithful to Spidey's origin and I commend it. Not amazing but impressive enough to see.
