The Amazing Spider-Man is a highly entertaining summer film that sticks closer to the Spider-Man comics, yet is updated for 21st century audiences. Peter Parker is once again a shy science-nerd high-schooler who gets bitten by a genetically-modified (and possibly radioactive) spider who becomes the first cross genetic hybrid. Spidey's web shooters are back (undoing a major cop-out of the last films - if Peter grew web spinners, it would be located near his butt, not his wrists).
The film dives a bit more into character development and one can feel Peter's anguish and emotional turmoil throughout the film.
The action sequences are fast and furious and Spider-Man squeaks out of a bunch of near-death experiences singed, battered and bruised showing us that he is man, not Superman.
A must see for all and comic book fans a keeper.

Casting was great. I thought Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) looked and sounded very much like Hayden Christensen from Star Wars Episode 2. The actor who played the lizard captured well the tormented inner battle of the lizard versus Dr. Conners. While the Gwen Stacy of Spiderman 3 emphasized her beauty, here Emma Stone also captured her intellect.
While with some movies and their 3D effects, I can take it or leave it, but the 3D here was EXCEPTIONAL, and added much to the action of the movie.
This Spiderman seemed to be more true to the comic book hero than the other movies, especially concerning his powers and his humor while fighting crime.
Good for 10 and up.

Great directing. Great cast. Great storyling. Great way to reboot this franchise. Andrew Garfield is simply AMAZING as Peter Parker/Spider-Man! I love how director Marc Webb made the storyline more toward Parker finding out about his parents and the secrets to why they disappeared while he was young. The whole story from the beginning of the movie toward the end flowed smoothly all throughout, and had a great mixture of comedy, romance, drama, and of course, a ton of action! This is a film that's great for all ages: kids, teens, adults, seniors...anybody! If you haven't done so yet, go watch it now, it'll be very well worth it!

It's a very good movie. I do recommend seeing it in 3-D. The CGI and other special effects are spectacular and clearly would not be appreciated fully in 2-D. The story is good, although not as faithful to the comic book as Tobey Maguire's first Spider-man movie.
I was unfamiliar with the British actor Andrew Garfield before he became Peter Parker in this version of Spiderman. He's a fine actor, and his American English was impeccable - no hint of his British accent, which he definitely has per his appearance on Jay Leno a few weeks ago. Garfield's Parker was less nerdy and more edgy than Maguire's; in fact, he was in some ways pretty hip. The story itself was edgier and more hip than the original Maguire movie, but also more intense, and lacked the humor of the original.
Overall I'd have to rate the original as better than this one because the story is better, but this one is definitely quite good. Edge to this one for the special effects.

This movie truly delivers and was a cinematic delight from start to finish. Marc Webb did a great job telling this story in a way that audiences had yet to experience. Everything from the story to the actors to the performances to the effects are the way this story deserves to be told. I'm itching in anticipation for Amazing 2!
