"The Most Beautiful Sound I have ever Heard"

Umm, well what can I say about West Side Story? The score, the choreography, the cinematography, the singing, the acting, the STORY...everything was perfection. I've seen this movie 2-3 times over the last couple of decades on TV, but never on the big screen. I took my 21 year old daughter who had never seen it and she loved it as much as I do. It was fantastic. I only wish that it were playing for more than one night at my local theatre because I would take my mother to see it too. She's the one who introduced it to me when I was a little girl, afterall. The projection quality was superb and the sound was crystal clear. Please, do yourself a favor and see it on the big screen. It's one for the ages and share it with someone you love, no matter what their age is. Timeless classic!

In essence, my wife dragged me to see this. Musicals are one of my least favourite movie genres, and I detest romantiic movies. I liked some of the singing and dancing (at the school dance, when the Puerto Ricans were on the roof singing about life in America, when the gang was singing about the police officer (Krepke?)) but did not like all that gangland racing and prancing around and all the stupid teenage hot-headed macho posturing. As for all the romantic-staring-into-each-others-eyes garbage, my wife had to tell me to stop sighing and groaning (she thought I might have been taking away from other people's enjoyment).

Turner Classic Movies has once again honored a timeless favorite. Having been a baby of 3 yrs, and remembering the songs from the back seat at drive in with my parents...... it was an absolute joy to see West Side Story on the big screen. I loved how Turner Classic Movies had Marni Nixon ,George Chakiris, and Walter Mirisch interviewed by Robert Osborne.... it really gives you a feel for some of the insights of how the production was created. The sound ... 7.1 surround was a great idea to honor the phenomenal works of Sondheim and Bernstein. The HD Picture quality really added to the experience. I loved how the audience applauded as the movie started.... as was especially pleased to experience the applause of the dance scene at the gym.... I really felt as though I was being given the gift of a masterpiece in Cinema... and it was with profound appreciation of such a wonderful gift. A masterpiece for the ages......

My all time favorite movie!! I saw this movie years ago and fell in love with it. Whenever it was on tv my sister would call me to make sure I wasn't missing it. I can watch this over and over again and absolutely love the songs! I have a new found love for the dance scenes even though I previously didn't care for them. Seeing them on the big screen changed that for me. I am happy to say I got to see the 50th Anniversary screening with my sister and we both were in awe of the quality of the picture, the crispness and color. So Wonderful!! Take the Family! Thank you for this Movie!!!
