Loved "The Birds" but......

My husband and I had to leave half way through the movie because the seats were killing us and the movie was painfully loud. I was hoping the movie had been remastered or digitized for clarity but that was not the case. A tad bit grainy. Excellent movie but I would rather watch it on a comfortable couch on a small TV than to endure the torture racks that pass for seats in a movie theater. I must say though that there is nothing like seeing it on the big screen.

They don't make movies like this anymore. All is computer generated and over the top blood and gore. Here we actually have characters that we get to know and like or not and watch their lives unfold in a way that we can relate to. The fear is real and isn't over done. Makes you think and focus on the story and not just the effects. It was so good to see it in the theater again. Thanks to TCM and Fandango for these wonderful nights. Keep em coming!!!!

My 12 year old daughter and I went to see The Birds. Tippi Hedren is so sharp in her interview with Robert Osborne. We both loved to see it on the big screen. A visual delight.

Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds"

By Roger O Thornhill

It was wonderful to see "The Birds" on the big screen! This Hitchcock film has always been one of my favorites, it has such a great atmosphere taking place in the quaint town of Bodaga Bay California. Many viewers often find the start of the film slow going ,but I like getting to know the characters and how they interact with each other. Once the bird attacks begin it can be quite disturbing to watch, many of the victims are children! The special effects are still very effective for a film released in 1963. Another great asset of the film is the soundtrack, no music just the eerie electronic sounds of birds. The newly restored film is gorgeous, full of rich colors, especially RED. "The Birds" is a classic film that I will always enjoy!

the show must go on

The TCM intro material and 'The Birds' itself were totally enjoyable but our 2 p.m. show didn't start until about 2:35. In the interim we saw a Hitchcock movie quiz over and over again (after about a dozen times, the challenge was beginning to fade) and a bunch of Fandango promotional material (also time I will never get back but at least we didn't have to watch the same thing repeatedly). We kept thinking the show was going to start any minute so no one wanted to leave the theater. At 2:30, I went out to find a manager who was able to get the show going but offered no explanation. Not the end of the world but not what I expected, either.
