Wonderful Alfred Hitchcock Movie Classic. Great to see it on the big screen. Loved the Tippi Hendren interview prior to watching the movie. Hope we can continue these TCM movie events. Love it!!!!

Still a Classic

The interviews were very neat to see and helped me get into the film more. Having been to Bodega Bay more than once, it is very cool to see so much of the little town in the movie. The movie itself seems slow to start, but once it gets rolling you find that you are thoroughly hooked. Well acted and well presented, not having a clear person to hate takes you to a different level, one not often visited these days. Definitely not a film for the kiddies unless you like dealing with nightmares and screaming children. The ending seemed a little subdued IMO, but it didn't ruin the movie. Still one that you need to see.

The Birds

We wento to Del Amo 18 to attend the screening of "The Birds". The show was supposed to start at 7pm. It did not start at 7pm. No one came to tell us what was going on. At approximately 7:20pm, a gentleman went out to talk to the staff to find out what was going on and brought her back in with him. Apparently they were having "technical difficulties". Then she left. The gentleman stood up to tell us his other Fathom Event experiences and apparently these technical difficulties happen frequently. While he was talking, the usher came back in and started yelling at him to sit down. It was very rude since he was not saying anything derogatory. The previews finally started at 745pm, without any sound. Then the interview with Robert Osborn finally started at approximately 8pm, the sound finally started working with that. The movie itself did not start until 8:10pm. A lot of people left prior to the movie. I do not think I will attend another Fathom Event because of this.

The Birds

I enjoyed the movie "The Birds" on the big screen. However, there were some issues that made the experience less enjoyable: 1. There was a quiz at the beginning concerning Alfred Hitchcock movies; the same quiz was shown at least six (6) times! 2. During the interview with Tippi Hedren, the movie screen went blank and there was only the audio portion. This lasted approximately 4-1/2 minutes. 3. When the movie ended, the lights did not go up and the audience had to leave in darkness. This was at the Rave Cinema Colonel Glenn 18 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Disappointed

For anyone going to see this film, they would probably know the story and dialogue by heart, so loving the film is a given. This movie has no equal for the first time viewer. The issues was in the presentation. For a full color restoration, the colors were totally dull. I suspect that was a function of the projection technology, but it didn't reflect well on the film. I expected at least a minimum of fanfare, but there was none to be had. The ticket taker had not even heard of the movie, had to look it up and make sure there was such a thing. Then there was a HUGE chunk of the movie that was lost during transmission, losing the critical scenes of the bird attack on the town, as well as the death of Annie Heyworth, which I found COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. Should not have been shown without a complete download. For the finale, the theater didn't know where the end of the viewing was, so they didn't turn on the theater lights, so we had to exit in the dark. I'll stay home next time
