Good Event

This was the first time I've seen any Hitchcock in a movie theatre and it was a great experience. Having said that, what made this movie scary 50 years ago is likely not going to keep people on the edge of their seats today. Perhaps we're jaded and/or suffer from sensory overload. In fact, the crowd I saw the film with laughed more than screamed. Nonetheless, if you want to see one of Hitchcock's masterpieces, do go the next time this event is put on.

The Birds

We wento to Del Amo 18 to attend the screening of "The Birds". The show was supposed to start at 7pm. It did not start at 7pm. No one came to tell us what was going on. At approximately 7:20pm, a gentleman went out to talk to the staff to find out what was going on and brought her back in with him. Apparently they were having "technical difficulties". Then she left. The gentleman stood up to tell us his other Fathom Event experiences and apparently these technical difficulties happen frequently. While he was talking, the usher came back in and started yelling at him to sit down. It was very rude since he was not saying anything derogatory. The previews finally started at 745pm, without any sound. Then the interview with Robert Osborn finally started at approximately 8pm, the sound finally started working with that. The movie itself did not start until 8:10pm. A lot of people left prior to the movie. I do not think I will attend another Fathom Event because of this.

THE BIRDS (ON SOMEONE'S LAPTOP)

Ten minutes into the start time and the screen was blank. Told the manager and she sent someone into the control booth. Eureka! On the screen I saw a Direct TV feed menu and after some messing around and fast forwards and reverses I got to see some really goods interviews from the castmembers and a wonderful interview with Robert Osborne and star Tippi Hedren! Once the actual film began, I was shocked to see that it was in the dreaded fullscreen format! This will be my last TCM movie event! J. White III

Tha Birds

Have seen this film on tv, but soooo much better on the big screen! Even tho it was made in the 60s, it still conjurers up some pretty frightening images as the birds descend on the sleepy little town of Bodega Bay. Thanks for putting the classics back on the big screen, where they belong!

THE BIRDS

The theatre that did the showing was incompetent. The previews showed without the audio. When the interview w/Robert Osborne and Tippi came on it played for a bit and then it it stopped for 20 minutes. They then started video 10 minutes into the movie and no sound. They had to rewind it back to the interview, still no sound for 2-3 minutes and then the movie started. After the movie, no credits and no house lights. We had to make our way out of the theartre in the dar. The manager was apathetic and didn't seem to know what was going on. I don't think I will do this again -- very disappointing. I can buy it on DVD and watch it at home without the all the hassle.
