We found the film entertaining, as expected; however, formulaic Spielberg with the gradual introduction of the alien, etc. I saw bits from other Spielberg films being recycled for this one. The kids doing the acting were great, but just once, I'd like to see a "family" movie released under a major distribution deal that can be done without dropping the F*** word in the dialogue. We don't expect all' "G" language, but some of us parents still care about what our kids are exposed to in movies. We know they are going to hear it anyway, but do we need to pay $16.00 for it? Overall, a fun movie to sit and watch, but I felt that without 3D, it was not worth the price to see it at IMAX. A regular screen would have been fine, since it was not presented in 3D. 3 out of 5 stars, all attributable to the actors. That's just my 2 cents.

Loved the thematic elements, the spectacular effects, and the way-out-there plot, but what was most endearing and interesting was the side story of the young peoples' struggles with each of their home lives, growing up, and the camaraderie they enjoyed together. Much like Goonies or Stand By Me, what really sticks is the characters interactions with one another and the nostalgia for one's one childhood that it brings.

The movie had a good buildup. Cross between Stand by Me, ET & Cloverfield. Enjoyable in IMAX though

Going into Super 8 I was expecting a Cloverfield type of movie, a movie full of excitement and suspense. Happily I was proven wrong. Super 8 is a very emotional movie about kids going through a huge event in their small town. It teaches you a few lessons about relationships and how they're made/handled, and shows you how the best friendships last through thick and thin. Putting the emotional gushy stuff aside, there was a lot of amazing effects and explosions throughout the movie while you're trying to figure out what came out of the train. I don't want to spoil it for you, but lets just say the thing doing the destruction is not only wild in nature but it looks pretty wild it self. ;)
GREAT MOVIE, go see it!
