If you care at all about what is happening to our country & our men- SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!

This is the most amazing, eye opening movie I've seen in a long time. I remember wanting so much to join the military when I was in school (b/c of an illness I was unable to). All you hear about is how great it is and how they will change your life. That may be the case for many men; and I'm not taking ANYTHING away from the glory of fighting for your country. However; this movie tells the sad truth about how millions of our men return home; if at all. Our country needs a change. Whether you know someone in the military or not; please- see this movie; and then VOTE!!!!!

    Pretty good. DVD collection worhy.

All in all, I thought this movie was pretty good. As far as the political side of this story, it may be a touchy subject for some people. This movie does not promote the war in Iraq. Yes, there are a couple of battle scenes, but that's it. This movie, instead, deals with the homecoming of a group of soldiers from Fort Hood, TX. The film tackles some angles on soldiers that we either can't see or we just choose to ignore, like the effects of PTSD and alcoholism. It focuses particularly on one solider, played by Ryan Phillipe. On the day he's expecting to receive his discharge papers from the army, he is instead given orders to anoter unit returning to Iraq within weeks. At first, he's in complete disbelief, like it's some kind of sick joke being played on him. Then the reality hits him, and he tries to do everything in his power to keep from going back. If nothing else, this movie shows how far some soldiers are willing to go to prevent a return to what some call Hell.

    painful, affecting, and human

i left proud of our soldiers and their families. the character we probably feel the most sympathy for is just a girl trying to support a man who has suffered--however she can, and when you leave you'll find yourself hunting down soldier-support groups like anysoldier.com... what you won't leave with is a partisian guilt trip.

some less-than-amazing directing, script, and casting choices (i'm looking at YOU channing tatum) drag the movie down a bit, but you won't be bored. worth seeing. and i'm a hard sell.

    As a soldier

     by  scde86

As a soldier who has been deployed and has seen buddies deal with these issues, it hit home pretty well. Aside from a few things, I thought it was a great movie.

    SPOILER

Also, I'm glad that SSG King made the right decision in the end.

When i first saw the previews for this movie, i was excited to go see this. After the movie ended, i was a little disappointed with it. I really expected more action in this movie. But there was a lot of talking going on. It was a good movie. But i wasn't thrilled that much bye this movie.

If you see one film this year, make this the one!

We went into this movie tonight not knowing what to expect. From what we'd seen from other reviewers, some people walked out after the first 5 minutes and for others it was life changing. We thought this movie was absolutely incredible. It gives real insight into these men's (no, NOT boys) lives as soldiers and the struggles they go through serving our country. This movie is filled with extremely skilled actors giving performances as soldiers trying to re-adjust to civilian life and at the same time still be military men. You truly feel their pain and frustration. Anyone who's said their performances were unemotional and "hard" doesn't understand that this is how our soldiers are trained. My only advice is to please see this movie. Don't view it as "anti-military". It's a good story that needs to be viewed the way it was intended, as one of growth and loyalty to country and family.

    Original buzz:

If you like movies that force you to THINK - go see this movie.

     by  renomarsgirl1

I have a 13 year old son who wants to join the Army after he is finished with school. Watching this movie forced me to seriously consider what it might be like for him ? if we are still at war in 5 or 6 years ? coming home from a tour and believing that you have satisfied your commitment to the United States Army only to be told, ?sorry son but you?re going back!? What total b.s. I am against the war already so the thought of sending my child over to a foreign country to die makes no sense to me.

?Stop-Loss? examines this subject from his best friend?s point of view as well as from his parents. I liked the movie and will probably take my son to see it this weekend.

A powerful reminder of the effect of war on those who choose to fight for this country regardless of the bad decisions that the government makes. Very moving and well acted.

Great Title - wasnt sure of what it meant before I went to see it thought...now I understand..might have been better to use a title that would draw people in more

the movie itself was amazing..the way the director used camcorder video to show flash backs made an ongoing connection with the war zone and the soilders time in the US....it made a fabulous attempt at showing how our war heros are affected by their experiences in the field and how our system is so screwed up that even the most affected cannot get out....

the comparision between tommy who wanted to stay in more than anything but was forced out and ryan phillipe who wanted out but was forced back in

the love story was also played excellently...it left everything to our imagination

a really great movie...i am telling everyone to go see...

    Stop Loss

THIS MOVIE FINALLY SHOW WHAT OUR TROOPS HAVE TO ENDURE IN IRAQ AND AFGANISTAN. IT SHOWS THE MENTAL ANGUISH AND THE HORRORS OF DEATH THAT OUR TROOPS HAVE BEEN SUBJECTED TO. IT SEAMS TO ME THAT SOME OF OUR TROOPS ARE SUFFERING FROM PTSD AND ARE AFFRAID TO ADMIT TO IT BECAUSE OF THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE MILITARY SYSTEM OF HANDLING OF THIS PROBLEM AND THE FALSE STIGMA THAT IS ATTACHED TO IT. THE MOVIE SHOWS THAT IF THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT PREPARED IN ALL AREAS THAT IT SHOULD NOT GO TO WAR BECAUSE OF A FEW INDIVIDUALS. I STILL CAN'T FIND IN OUR CONSTITUTION WHERE IS SAYS THAT WE ARE THE POLICE OF THE WORLD.DEMOCRACY AS WE KNOW IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN IN THE MIDDLE EAST BECAUSE THE PEOPLE THEMSELVES WILL NOT ALLOW IT.
