great acting, but....

Great acting, but movie was slow and boring. When you put Robert De Niro and Edward Norton together there's an expectation of a great movie but when the movie itself is boring it ruins everything. Milla's performance was fantastic. I'm hoping this will bring her more opportunities.... Good Job Mellisa.

"Stone": More than the eye can see...

I thoroughly enjoyed this film because there'smore here than meets the eyes...and ears. It may take more than one viewing to "get" what this movie really has to say, but it's well worth it. The thrilling/psychological stuff, we've seen before, and better. But these aspects are only tools to make a bigger metaphysical point. If you're wondering why these exceptional actors would appear in a mediocre movie like I did, well, they didn't. They appeared in it because it is an inventive way to say something deeper about us all, and we have to be willing to get past our every-day thinking I didn't give this a "must see" because I think it is mainly for the viewer who feels cheated if not challenged a bit.

It is fair to say that I thought De Niro and Norton could pull off a character study and surprisingly this was not the case. It is also fair to place blame where I think most of it lies and that for me would be in the writing. I feel like the film lacked in the development of these characters and could have used one or two more pivotal scenes in which we could see the true nature of the characters. The dialogue gave us some, but not enough. Their actions also gave us some, but still not enough. Combined they drew us close to what is optimal, but fell short and landed more into the 'did what was necessary' range. Lucetta(Jovovich) proved to be the best displayed in terms of defining who/what she was/would be. The film wasn't horrible, but I was honestly left wanting more. I know climaxes are different, are dealt with differently from one genre to the next, and especially from one movie to the next, but this film left me wanting a more clear picture of who thesecharactersreallywere.

DeNiro and Norton are absolutely 5 Star in this flick. I was not a huge fan of the movie, but the roles they played and how well they played them made the movie very much worth it.
