First off go, solely because you don't often get to see a big box office movie twice in a theater like you do here. That said this film being in 3D was not a good idea. Now It was nice to see a greater depth of view when it came to the space scenes but that's about it. 1ST the film is instantly darker due to the glasses. 2ND you lose a lot of the color vibrance as well also due to the dark tint of the glasses. 3RD the actual 3d conversion itself at times looks sloppy and really pointless. Areas of screen were over blurred when areas further back seemed to be clearer. I mean I'm used to viewing this film in 1080p on my DLP. So I was shocked that most of this film was blurry. Sometimes it was crystal clear so I moved to different areas in the theater with the same result. Sadly it would have been better to just view the film the way it was intended to be viewed. They have 2 years to get the next one right.

I was a Star Wars person as a kid....sharing it again with my son was a special memory. The effects were awesome and we had a great time. It is a great way to have an experience with a kid that brings some of your own past experience into the day. Take a kid! The 3D was a great and fun addition.

I saw the original episode 1 when it was first released. I had not yet seen a 3D movie and knowing how I have enjoyed the Star Wars story since seeing it in 1977 I was committed to seeing this re-release. Frankly, the 3D addition was weak. The story was as good as it had been in 2D. The effects of the 3D added very little to my overall enjoyment. The pod racing scene was enhanced but was short-lived.
If you are going to see this movie because you want to see magnificent 3D effects, don't waste your money. If you want to see it because, like me, you are fan of the story, you won't regret it. See it for the story and its an A+; see if for the effects and I give it a C-.

Pod racing scene was EPIC! This being my least favorite of the movies, I was impressed my the use of the 3D effects. Made the fight, space, and pod race scene that much cooler.

Great anytime to see any of this classic series on the big screen, but the 3D effects were less than spectacular. Have only ever seen one 3D movie that was worth sitting for two hours with those goofy glasses on, and that was Avatar.
Will likely see the other 5 over the next 5 years, just for the thrill of the big screen experience, but there is little that can be done, even if you're George Lucus, to add a lot of 3D effect if the film was not shot originally in 3D.
If they could make it look like the Carmike trailer telling you put on your glasses...now that is 3D!!!
Still a fun time and a great movie, though it is the weakest of the series. Can't wait for episodes 4, 5, and 6!
