Too much money is spent on these things for originality. The best one can hope for is not a train wreck, and this is a serviceable follow up to the 2009 film. I won't give anything away, but the "borrowed" plot lines worked for me, even if the current villain did not quite fill the shoes of his predecessor. The 3D was cool for a couple of scenes, but mostly it would have worked in 2D if you ask me. Go see it. As a bonus, there is plenty of Simon Pegg to enjoy (he does fill Scotty's shoes quite nicely).

Sitting down in my chair as the movie begins I leaned to my girlfriend and said, "This movie will be action from start to finish. I promise, you will be engaged." J.J. Abrams never seems to disappoint. This film takes you and pulls you in all directions. I can be laughing at an undermining comment stated by Bones one minute and wiping the tears from my eye the next. The picture and set pieces are just mind boggling. I cannot tell you how many times I shook my head in amazement, but I expected nothing less from Abrams. The character interaction as well as the development they each have, is lovely to watch. The movie hits home for Trek fans more than a few times which still gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. As the ending credits roll on by, my girlfriend leaned over to me and whispered, "You were right!" This sequel exceeds all expectations.

Good combination of classic and alternate timeline. Funny, sad and emotional. Many one line references to classical characters and situations, but not necessary for understand the movie. My Nieces and nephew love the new Movies.

It was awesome to see the NEW "Jim" Kirk and all the rest of the NEW, old crew. They have started a new era of Star Trek. This was the best Star Trek movie in a long time! A must see especially for anyone that has ever seen Star Trek before! Well done, Hollywood!!!!

Abrams clearly has no idea what Star Trek is about or really even how to put together a coherent and worthwhile story.
The whole storyline is so gaping with holes that it definitely can't hold water no matter who is watching.
However, if you have seen previous Star Trek movies and episodes and in particular the episodes referenced in the movie (I won't mention to avoid spoilers) your stomach will turn over and you'll want to vomit.
I suspect that without the big budget sequences and special effects the thing would have been better as an SNL Parody because it is exactly that. Special moments that had previous significance are completely ripped off and handled so poorly that the only way to interpret them is as a joke and it is on us the watcher.
This is truly disgusting and JJ Abrams has made it crystal clear he couldn't care less about Star Trek. Unfortunately, he can't seem to make a basic good guy/bad guy movie either with a decent story.
