This was one of the best Si-fi Movies I have seen in a while. The 3d Effects were off the hook!!! I really enjoyed it! This takes you to the young Khan and you see him in his prime!

It may have been a good movie, I just couldn't tell! The 3D was spectacular! The script was so-so, and the story was fulfilling. It's fun to get the back story for these iconic characters we've come to love and hate. The camera effects, particularly in the battle scenes were REALLY, I felt sick to my stomach, and that's a first! When you pair that with a sound system that was more than twice too loud, I left the theater physically disoriented, feeling ill with a massive headache. So, go for the story, be ready for the spectacular 3D and find a theater that turns the volume to bearable levels, and it should be entertaining.

Much better than I expected from the reviews

I loved the first of the new Star Trek movies - I've seen it, wholly or partly, about five times. The reviews of "Into Darkness" were rather luke warm, so that's what I was expecting: a lot of bang bang. But this story was tightly organized and the emotions raised by the lead characters of Kirk and Spock were real for me. The 3D didn't seem quite right at first, but that sense faded and I was soon into the picture. Weaknesses for me: the editing was a little fast paced - flickflickflick - and there wasn't much development of characters other than Kirk and Spock.

Not quite what I was hoping for

If you're a fan of the series (like me), make this a 'GO", if only because its best moments are the little jokes and references to the original series. The visual effects are stunning (especially in IMAX), and the cast does a good job with what they are given to work with. Unfortunately, for huge chunks of the movie, that is a series of increasingly over-the-top yet predictable action sequences. And while the IMAX visuals were worth the extra admission price, the sound in IMAX was overwhelming, to the point that my ears were ringing for several hours after the movie. Not pleasant.
