The graphics were spectacular but the fact that it was not originally filmed in 3D or iMAX (only partially shot in iMAX) was a bit unnerving. Benedict Cumberbatch should get an Oscar for his spectacular performance. The story line seemed to lag toward the end and seemed disjointed. Additionally there was a loose thread that was not tied and that nagged at me. I'll not relate that for those who have not seen the movie. And what's with the Leonard Nimoy cameo? Did that also seem open ended? When I heard that Abrams was also going to direct Star Wars I wondered was this just the Hollywood Good Ole Boy machine at work or sheer talent. I concluded the former and now that has taken some of the edge off of my anticipation for something worthy of the franchise the way it should have been before Lucas totally screwed the pooch. I think there is something in the drinking water in Hollywood or Marin County that causes once worth individuals to become delusional and malfunctioning.

Spend the money to see it in IMAX 3D

Loved the movie, and the IMAX and 3D only made it better. JJ Abrams really continues with the idea that these characters are not exactly the same as the Shatner / Nimoy versions. Still the film is great fun and a must for Trek fans and for those who just love a good movie!

STID Is A Personal Experience ... Look At Review Ratings But Don't Read Body

Unless you are reading mine ... This movie needs you to not be tainted by amateur reviews (like mine) and ranting, ravings, pontifications of a bunch of know it alls ... it is a fun filled movie! It's exciting, it is visually stimulating (if you can -- IMAX is a must), and the story line is one that "YES" for the newbie non-hardcore Trekker as well as the people like Sheldon on Big Bang Theory. The character relationships ... they NAILED it. DeForest Kelley is giving Urban a big thumbs up from the great beyond. Shatner and Nimoy should leave the theater with a big, proud smile too. They all should. Stop reading reviews before they give away all of the amazing pearls and priceless nuggets of this movie. Make it your experience. There is nothing more I can say otherwise I'll have to type something like *** SPOILER ALERT *** GO ! Have a good time.

Once again they pay homage to the TV series cast and legacy while making a fresh new movie. This was fantastic. J.J. Abrams is a genius.

Star Trek - AWESOME!!!

I found the new Star Trek to be highly entertaining from the special effects, suspenseful action scenes and the banter between the characters was really entertaining. It had me on the edge of my seat the whole time and was an excellent use of the 3D medium. I've heard two critics say "Don't go see it in 3D." Which I find ridiculous. I think this new Star Trek is the best use of the 3D medium since Avatar. It's a definite "See it in 3D on the IMAX film!" People were clapping and cheering and the fans were not disappointed! Five stars, two thumbs up!!
