great acting, good movie

For me, "Into Darkness" did not live up to the hype. The story was just too meager for a full-length movie, and even so there were some pretty significant plot holes. Also, I found the action sequences to be overly drawn out, as if they were padding. That said, it is an enjoyable flick. The acting is outstanding. I especially like the Spock/Kirk dynamic, and Benedict Cumberbatch was marvelously threatening as a bad guy. In a nutshell: not fantastic, but enjoyable and definitely worth seeing.

Star Trek into Darkness 3D

This is a great addition to the Star Trek franchise. The current actors are easy to see evolving into the character of the original series. The one exception is Khan, who went from a long haired Spaniard to a British Spy Master. I was left wondering what the relationship is between Captain Pike, of this movie to Captain Pike from the two part episode in the TV series. All in all a very enjoyable and exciting movie.

Star Trek 2: The Wrath Of You-Know-Who!

The action is abundant, characters get to develop and the humorous dynamics between them really start to click here. Cool to see Peter "RoboCop" Weller on board as an admiral. The main villain is well-played by Benedict Cumberbatch, and all spoilers aside, you know who that character is by now. I liked this movie a lot, probably a bit more than JJ Abrams' first Trek, although I was a little irked by the blatant rip-offs from the 80's Trek 2 (dialogue, a climactic scene involving heroic sacrifice, and one really hilarious "Shatnerism" that I thought would work as a joke, but never imagined would actually happen in this film!) But hey, these new Treks are tons of fun and I dare say better than the last few Next Generation features. Looking forward to those new Abrams-helmed Star Wars movies. Geek it up!

This second Star Trek movie is a strong continuation from the first one. It was exciting and dark with great action sequences. Chris Pine, Zachery Quinto, and Zoe Saldana make a great on screen trio. Benedict Cumberbatch was outstanding; cold, calculating. Great movie.

Spoiler Free review From a casual Star Trek fan

I'm a fan of the original series, but not a Treker(ie?)...although I do love the genre. So if you're a die-hard Treker, I don't know if aspects of this movie will wow you or annoy you (although my mother in law, a pretty huge fan of the originals, loved it). There are a TON of homages in this one, some of them subtle (an alien communication officer is wearing Uhura's earrings from the show), some of them so blatant that with lesser actors and a lesser director, would cause groans from the audience. The writers did a fantastic job packing a ton of story with good flow and dialog into this film, and JJ Abrams...the boy is one of the best directors in Hollywood right now, if he can just reel in the lens flares. Sometimes you wonder if you could decipher a code from the intensity and frequency of them. Cast are top notch. 3d is surprisingly good considering it was done in post. If you like 3d, see it that way.
