This one might not be as thought provoking as some of the TV shows, but it kept us on the edge of our seats almost as much as the oringal Star Wars did the first time I saw it. Still not wild about the new timeline, but Abrams has done a commendable job of not forgetting those of us with decades of ST vestment, while enticing new generations to the franchise.
If you go into this one having purposely avoided all of the advanced leaks / discussions, you are in for some surprises. Even if you know the rumors, you'll enjoy the action.
IMO this is one of the better ST movies of all time.

I have been a fan of Star Trek since the original TV show in the 60s. Went to see this new one last night in 3D and all I have to say it " Great Show!!!" Really good work by J. J. in this, but must say that I was taken aback by the swapping of characters in the film. Having Spock yelling the "Khan" line and have Kirk swap in a epic role of a scene that Spock did really threw me.
Special effects were great and eye popping. Plan on seeing it again and getting DVD when it comes out.

Not as good as #1 by far, when we were first introduced to the new Star Trek cast - all 'being' the younger versions of Shatner, Nimoy, Takei, etc.
All fantastic for my taste with the exception of the guy playing Scotty. How is it that this new guy playing Scotty is irritating and the original one was likeable?
Odd also that Spock is married to Uhura. We got no sense of what they saw in each other or why they got married; they just are. Odd marriage indeed. And the actress playing Uhura did a great job of creating a relationship with him and I got no sense of his relationship to her.
The film was okay, moved along nicely. I did feel that some of the action was gratuitous; which is odd because obviously we are being manipulated in the story telling but this was a rare occasion when I felt they added action in just to create tension. In other words, the magician's trick was a bit obvious.
3 stars out of 5.

Without giving away the story, the trailers they've shown advertising the movie do not tell the real story. Go see it and be surprised. Remember, this and the last one with Chris Pine start a new alternate reality for the series! It's pretty cool!

The realism of the graphics is just unbelievable. Story is true for any century, power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Nothing disappointing here, most of the time hollywood has to make someone incompetent to create drama, this fresh start has every foe smarter. Everyone is at the top of the game and just have to be more clever to defeat them. Whew thats a new one. Not having to say " why would you even do that" was a relief.
Totally enjoyable, do miss just the control room shaking in the old Star Trek. A cameo appearance again is nice too.
