Realistic depiction of the banal nature of war

It has been a while since I saw this film, but highly recommend it for anyone seriously interested in the truth about war on the Eastern front in WWII. The film is in German and Russian with English sub-titles (at least the version I saw) and there are some pretty graphic battle scenes as well as some pretty immoral actions on the part of the soldiers, so it is not recommended for children or even young teenagers. This is not a movie you see and think that war is somehow noble, so be prepared to be somewhat depressed after seeing the movie. That said, the movie has a solid story line, good acting and cinematography and communicates an important message about the banal nature of war.
