A movie doesn't get any better than this second best movie of all time!!!!!!!!! It's even better in imax expierience.
Summer sequels are often times predictable and formulaic historically so it is with low expectations that they are attended, but this installment seemed to pit great actors against the high demand for special effects. Almost every other scene that involved dialogue seemed fraught with over-the-top emotion. All eyes seemed to brim with tears, as if the mark of great acting were the amount of water produced by all the eyes in the movie. It's not as if there was much room for any other choice in the script though, In order to compete with the high intesity of the special effects the performances chosen by the editors were equally intense. Then again, films based in comic books tend to be about melodrama.
Wow! How many bad guys should you fit into one movie? The answer is less than 3 and that's for sure. Between the Story of Harry Osborn and Peter Parker's Freindship and the symbiote suit coming down from space why did we need a sandman in the picture? For marketing! How many kids own a sandman toy today? I'm sure it's more than we would like to think! I loved the movie's comic book style story line which goes against more traditional comic book films that have been out in the past. The idea of moving from one panel of a comic book to another really came across in this movie. However, I never felt like the Sandman ever fit into the movie. I still give it 4 out 5 for great effects and action. Loved the story of Peter and Eddie Brok!
You miss nothing by not seeing it on IMAX. The top and bottom of the screen is cut off dramatically and gives you the feeling of watching a letterbox film instead of a full screen. It's still a bit bigger than a regular theater screen but not enough to justify the extra cost. The special effects are so impressive that they'll play big on any size screen. The movie moves along at a very good pace connecting the different storylines together but I was surprised that a superb actress like Bryce Dallas Howard would take such a meaningless supporting role that had no impact on the story. There is also quite a bit of male vulnerability in a movie that is so high on action but they manage to include some very funny scenes as well. The action scenes are very ambitious and grand in scale and the Hob Goblin is not just a throw-in to the plot. The climactic battle contains some magnificent special effects and a surprise that had the audience whooping it up. I highly recommend it.
Way much better than Superman !!!
