speedracer in imax

it was a fun movie. better than i expected. seats were too cramped at irvine specturm imax but the imaging was great.

Not for Kids under 10

This was billed as this summer's big "family" movie. I took my 6 year old son and 8 year old daughter to see it. There were several curse words, which I could get over, but the combo of that with lots of guns and violence made it a bad choice for our family. There are lots of bright colors, juxtopositions of eras, crazy camera angles, fast, changing dialogue that is hard to follow, esp. for a little kid. My son liked it, but I had to do a lot of talking afterwards about what I thought was inappropriate., and I don't think he understood the plot at all. My daughter closed her eyes during a lot of it and thought it was just ok. I'm sure this movie will get a lot of awards for groundbreaking effects, approach, etc., but it was just too out there, 'crazazy' for me. The IMAX screen just intensified the weirdness of it. It wasn't the family movie experience I was looking for.

Wish I could have seen it

I went to great deal of trouble to skip work and go see Speed Racer in IMAX at the Sony Metreon. However, it was not to be. Somewhere between the last show of the day before and 10:40 AM the projector stopped functioning. After driving downtown, paying to park and then sitting in the theatre for half an hour, a very nice young man came out and said the show was canceled due to technical difficulties.

It would have been nice if someone had tested tested the equipment earlier in the day and even nicer if I could have seen the picture. Oh well, I'll wait until it comes out on cable.

Ignore the critics, this is a must for fans!

I remember being really young and watching the reruns of Speed Racer (30 years after it was created). I hardly understood what was going on. Now flash forward, I'm in my late teens, watching the Speed Racer movie and STILL not understanding what's going on!

All jokes aside, this movie was made for the big screen (and I mean BIG). The effects are really neat. There is always so much going on, its a visual treat!
As for the story, well, it's Speed Racer. 'Nuff said!

This movie is really neat for the family. There is an inappropriate moment for the kids (nothing vulgar, just a crude hand gesture), but if the parents are present, there is no harm done.

All in all, if you've watched the original, go see the movie! If you haven't watched the show, go see the movie anyway! Just don't go in expecting a cinematic masterpiece like The Departed or Babel. Go watch this movie with the intent of having good clean fun!!

Imax is the way to go!

The movie was kool, mixed colorful animation with live action. And the Imax experience was great. It was very psychedelic. I recommend taking some shrooms, smoking some bowls, or at least pounding a couple beers so that you may appreciate the movie a bit more.

Great effects in Imax. Larger than life combined with the special effects in the movie. Greta movie for kids to see. My grandkids were overwhelmed by the grandness of the Imax experiance.

Good Movie

I swear i thought i was watching a cartoon at times. I went with my five year old and my 34 year old male cousin. And they both lovefd it. I loved the references they made to the cartoon, which I miss by the way. And it was a fun colorful movie. Im glad I saw it in IMAX. Also this may just be the first movie that will be able to show you whjat these new HD and Blu Ray DVD blayers and fancy TV's are capable of.

Never See This Movie

not only was the CG aweful it had no real plot, they used flash back too much, and the actors couldnt act. the plot was nothing like the old speed racer beacuse the mach 5 was only used for the grand prix not the whole time. through out the whole movie it was random slides in and out of flashbacks to the point i wanted to throw up. you could never tell where you were for sure, very, very confusing. the actors were horrible in my personal view point.

Great Grafix!

I loved the movie! Grafix were dope and the plot was super cute! I enjoyed the movie and I can't wait till it comes out on blue ray!!!
