I can say I enjoyed the movie more so for the actors and actresses in it and not so much for the way it was put together. I have not seen the original in such a long time that I can't really remember it but some of the movie just didn't seem to match with what I can remember. The movie was a bit too predictable and some of the acting could have been better but I enjoyed the soundtrack for sure and I will be looking into getting that.

Although the movie was a tear-jerker for me (I cry easily), it was, at the same time, inspirational. Although the characters, 'Sparkle' and 'Dee' were a litle one-dimensional, I REALLY enjoyed the actress who played, 'Dee'. On the flip side, the actress who played 'Sister' showed multiple dimensions; neither all-good or all-bad and, even when she was bad you could see/read the pain of her past which lead her to that behavior.
I did not enjoy Mike Epps but I'm a little biased in that way...I don't particularly care for him as an actor. However, he was relatively incidental to the story so it wasn't terrible.
All-in-all, I'm glad I went to see it and I would recommend it.

I couldn't wait to see Sparkle. Unfortunately, the movie does not deliver because the plot strays from being a story about three sisters' pursuit of singing success in the music business, and becomes a story about drug abuse, domestic abuse, and murder. These subjects are all too familiar to movie-goers like myself who were expecting a lighthearted musical similar to Dream Girls. Also, some situations from the movie, including Sister's relationship with Levi, are left without closure. This may be producers way of leaving the door open for a sequel but left me feeling that the story was incomplete.
Whitney Houston's performance as an old fashioned church mother of three daughters who she is determined will not listen to the devil's music nor participate in any foolishness, is worth the price of the movie.
Rent the original version of Sparkle before seeing this current version for a better idea of the original story. Three stars at best. Inappropriate for children under 14.

Enjoyed the Music, Some of the story line was good, but some of it was throw back to the days there was not good minority movies. Some of the characters were likable while ohters lacked substance. They could have brought the characters up-to-date. Good Video, not so much on the big screen.

I had the opportunity to watch the original Sparkle and compared to this version, this was way more entertaining. I especially liked the Whitney Houston scenes, she was great.
