Slow, Tense Set-Up

but, in my opinion, the climax was anticlimactic and disappointing. The big "surprise" at the end, I had already guessed in my mind. Maybe I've seen too many years of Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, and One Step Beyond....

I enjoyed the performances, just left me feeling a little wanting for more. I think it could have been, with a couple of tweaks, much better.

Strangely Compelling, Rich In Dialog, Short On Entertainment.

Some will find this film a little disappointing due to its heavy reliance on dialog, perhaps the whole meaning of its title...but I'm just guessing. Rich dialog, at times verbose, lends a good bit to the experience of this film, which unfortunately brings little else in the way of entertainment. Still, as the plot unfolds the audience is compelled to speculate, no small feat in film making. In the end the writers and film makers fail, not completely but mostly, to satisfy the audience. If you're not an overly choosey type and enjoy excellent dialog performances, this is a terrific choice but if you go in expecting the standard conflict resolution, conflict resolution fare, you'll come away dissatisfied. This one would bore kids and even most older teens to tears, so spare them. Otherwise, it's worth a matinee ticket price. Just don't go in expecting too much bang for your buck.

Pathetic attempt

I'm a huge fan of movies that are supposed to mess with your mind and make you think, but after a good 10 min build up this movie fails miserably. I'm pretty sure that a 10 year old could figure out the movie pretty easily. The acting was good in the movie and the actors deserve credit. Right when the movie climaxes it ends! It's like somebody with ADD got bored and decided to stop protection. If you're a fan of Stephen King or Saw movies don't bother with this one. It'll seem like a kids movie

Good! But know what you are getting into.

I really enjoyed this movie. But be forwarned that it's a bit slow starting out. Some of the dialog seems to drag on for 5 minutes what could be said in 1 minute. For example, when the cult leader Maggie is asked why she wants to see a certain child, the answer could be said in 10 seconds, but be prepared to wait 2 minutes for the real answer. I thought the actors did a great job and it has a terrific story line. I did not like it more than "Another Earh", which was also written by our star, Brit Marling. Some reviewers thought this the better show. It does have a surprise ending but some have anticipated it pretty well and it causes you to wonder after the movie what really happened. One thing few have mentioned is that there are some scenes which might gross you out a bit. At one point, I thought my wife was feeling a bit squeamish and I didn't feel too well either about what was transpiring on screen. If you don't like that feeling, you might not like this movie.

Mesmerizing

Brit Marling is perfect in a hypnotic and scary role as the 'leader' of a burgeoning cult. A slow, tense movie, ends up in a 'What the wha?" ending that leaves you still sitting in your seat after the credits start rolling.

Sound of My Voice

Absolutely worst movie I have ever seen. It was terrible all the way through and then the ending was even worse than the rest. It leaves you hanging for a sequel which will never happen.

I agree with dkny12, terrible movie and I absolutely adore indi films, but I wasted my money on this one. Horrible!

Inventive and surprising movie--loved it

Don't believe the bad reviews

I less going into this movie, the better. From a social workers perspective, I did enjoy the psychological aspects of this film and the characters. The film is not for everything, but it's hard to compare this movie to anything out there, Don't expect a big cast, speical effects or a budget like you might see in Donnie Darko, but expect to question what is reality and what is the reality of others. I would definitely recommend this movie to people with a background in human behavior.
