In the film genre of fantasy action, this one is equal to "Clash of the Titans" and a number of other similar films of recent years. What makes it unique is it actually hails from the old school traditions of film making, like "Joan of Arc," "The Bells of St. Mary's," or "Song of Bernadette," in that it tells a story of Christianity in a romanticized and seldom seen way. The champion fighting evil, bloody action and monsters; these things aren't new in film, neither are the fancy effects or great camera work, or even those frenetic sword fighting scenes. No, what's new here is the very reason this film has been given a limited release and so few screens around the country. Suddenly, at least as far as Hollywood and the corporate exhibitors are concerned, if a film uses the words "Jesus" or "Christian" in it's dialog, it's an automatic pariah. Too bad for the many who'll miss this movie as a consequence of misguided filtering of what the public gets to see. This is an excellent film.

If you like fantasy and action-adventure with some blood and gore, this movie is definitely for you! The acting is spot-on all the way around. The scenery is terrific and the mood is just what you'd expect for early 17th century England during its darkest days. Enough special effects to satisfy CGI fans. Give this one a try. You won't be disappointed!

Is this the same movie that came out in 2009... that's available on Amazon? Or is this an updated version... a sort of "director's cut" or something? I've seen the original. It's an "okay" movie, but it's not a GREAT movie. Hmmm.....
