Great Effects, Excellent Screenplay, Well-Made and Thoroughly Entertaining.
In the film genre of fantasy action, this one is equal to "Clash of the Titans" and a number of other similar films of recent years. What makes it unique is it actually hails from the old school traditions of film making, like "Joan of Arc," "The Bells of St. Mary's," or "Song of Bernadette," in that it tells a story of Christianity in a romanticized and seldom seen way. The champion fighting evil, bloody action and monsters; these things aren't new in film, neither are the fancy effects or great camera work, or even those frenetic sword fighting scenes. No, what's new here is the very reason this film has been given a limited release and so few screens around the country. Suddenly, at least as far as Hollywood and the corporate exhibitors are concerned, if a film uses the words "Jesus" or "Christian" in it's dialog, it's an automatic pariah. Too bad for the many who'll miss this movie as a consequence of misguided filtering of what the public gets to see. This is an excellent film.
