    I Liked This Movie

     by  singme

I thought this was a "smart" little movie. Very understated in a grumpy kinda way. I love Ellen Page, she is a great little actor and Thomas Hayden Church was wonderful. I really learned to care about and love these characters. I loved seeing the city of Pittsburgh in the location shots. The movie has a happy ending, which I am a sucker for.

    I give it a B+

    Funny People

This movie was really named Smart People. I felt the passion of the intellectual talk between Dennis Quaid and Sarah Jessica Parker. Ellen Page was grand in the her role as a smart person teenager. People who liked Juno probably would have had a hard time with this movie. Ellen Page will one day play the character , hopefully, of an optimist. She's young and still deserves an Oscar for Juno. She's quite talented. Yet, I wouldn't want my teenage daughter kissing her step-uncle. Not by any means. Plus she needed to respect her Dad's need for companionship.
The characters in Smart People really take their time. The excitement doesn't build;it slows and swirls. The older actors needed lots of help with attractiveness. Dennis's bot belly and scrungy cloths, Sarah's mole on her face and large brown spots on her upper chest, and Mr. Church's long johns and bare bottom. It still proves the unfortunate point that smart people are unkempt.

    Smart People

Very funny in an understated, real life way. Ellen Page manages to come off uptight and sweet at the same time, and Thomas Haden Church bares his many talents (some of which we would prefer not to have seen.) If only real life worked this way (sigh.)

    "You Cant Read"

     by  Daydream

"What is it like sitting alone at lunch everyday?"
Smart People is a cranky movie with dialogue meant to go over your head. Excellent self-absorbed acting by the main cast with complementary roles from the remainder. Quaid, Page and Church were phenomenal! It is extremely sarcastic and too smart at times, but has a meaningful storyline. This film helps you realize to "stop being miserable and accept things the way they are".
